The following was written on his sign: ‘I’ve loved you 67 years and still do. Happy Anniversary.’
Bob Shellard had to surprise his wife on their 67th wedding anniversary in Vernon, Connecticut, from outside her nursing home window because of fears about the COVID-19 outbreak.
The Vernon resident visited his wife’s nursing home on their 67th wedding anniversary, which was their first time spending it apart. He brought a sign to the facility to celebrate their 67 years of being married. Bob used to see his wife, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, on a daily basis, but the couple had been forbidden from having face-to-face contact for 30 days, according to The Hill.
According to NBC Connecticut, Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont issued a nursing home visiting prohibition in the light of the COVID-19 outbreak, forcing the state to take the extra precaution. The virus, according to health experts, presented a significant threat to elderly, and the visiting restriction was intended to safeguard the state’s most vulnerable populations. Although the restriction might well be justified, Bob and Nancy’s situation was no less sad as a result of the restriction.
Nancy gave her long-time spouse a kiss and waved from the window during the emotional meeting. Laura, Bob and Nancy’s daughter, remarked on her parents’ more-than-60-year marriage after their spontaneous, heartfelt anniversary party, saying she had learned a lot from the parents who have always shared a special ‘sweetness’.
Laura told NBC Connecticut, ‘It’s simply been an example for us, for each one of us. So we’ve all learned a lot from them, and I can only hope that I’ve learned half as much as they have been through the years.’

Although the coronavirus pandemic has resulted in many sacrifices, such as Bob and Nancy’s, it has also shown humanity’s finest qualities: resilience, community, and compassion. In this context, Bob’s devotion to his wife and his kind gesture are a ‘inspiration’,as Laura puts it.
‘I believe that as each year passes, they will continue to demonstrate this in some manner on their anniversary,’ Laura said. ‘They have always been an inspiration to us.’
I’m curious what you think of Bob’s touching dedication to celebrate his wedding anniversary.
