At the age of 50, a couple decides to sell their home in order to cruise the world.

It’s all about living your best life in retirement. At the very least, it should be.

#cruiselife is also a coincidence.
So Angelyn and Richard Burk combined two and two for their retirement.

The couple, who are in their 50s and live in Seattle, WA, have always wanted to travel when they retire.

They chose to cruise from ship to ship because they enjoy sailing.
It’s also less expensive than a mortgage. Yup! Living aboard a cruise ship costs the pair roughly $43 per day, or $15,696 per year, according to FOX 56 WOLF.

According to CNN, that figure is between $89 and $100 every day. Angelyn also claims that they periodically allow themselves to spend up to $135 per day, or $49,275 per year.

‘This year, we’ve booked 86 cruise days for both of us at an average all-in cost of $89 per day,’ Angelyn told CNN. “This includes the cost of the lodging, food, entertainment, transportation, gratuity, port fees, and taxes.’ This is well within our retirement budget,’ says the source.

In 1992, Angelyn took her first cruise. She and Richard began taking annual and occasionally bi-annual cruises after they married.

With their combined funds and the expected sale of their home, they can finance their new cruise lifestyle. Early in 2021, they started thinking about retiring and figuring the calculations. They started their new cruise life in May 2021 after realizing they could sail for the rest of their lives.

‘Our original idea was to spend a month in each country and eventually retire on cruise ships when we got older,’ Angelyn told 7 News Australia. ‘We enjoy traveling and were looking for a cost-effective solution to continue traveling in our retirement.’

They just had one suitcase with them on their journey.

They schedule their cruises so that they depart from where the previous one concludes.

When their cruise schedules do not coincide, they just stay on land for a while. Several occasions with family and friends.

But Angelyn can count on one hand the number of times this has happened.

And they have no intention of returning to land in the near future.
They intend to travel to every corner of the globe. The Burks have traveled to Singapore, Italy, Canada, Iceland, and the Bahamas thus far… sometimes multiple times.

‘We’ve been saving and investing our whole lives to attain our dream,’ Angelyn explained. ‘We are more interested in experiences than in material stuff.’

Angelyn believes that many people may become regular cruisers with some careful preparation and budgeting.

This is how:

She advises that you first decide if you want to live on a cruise ship and if you want to be at sea all of the time.

Sign up for reward programs and keep an eye out for discounts on other cruise lines.

Next, be flexible with your travel dates and try to stay in the same place for as long as possible to save money between ship jumps.

You should also book the cheapest hotels possible, avoid beverage bundles, and stick to your budget.

You don’t want to waste money on gambling and other activities aboard cruise ships because it is a lifestyle, not a holiday.

It’s also crucial to pack light. When traveling, you can always buy what you require.
