Eternal love: A couple of aged persons used Morse code to plot their escape from an assisted living center.

Love has the power to motivate us to do anything. Another story about an old couple’s out-of-this-world show of affection captivated the world.

A married couple successfully broke out of the Elmcroft Facility’s memory unit on March 2 in Wilson County’s Lebanon.

The couple, whose identities have not been revealed, both have dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. But they’ve just demonstrated that even a memory impairment won’t keep them apart.

A love that has no limits..

As strange as it may sound, the pair used their previous military experience to carry out their strategy. They communicated using Morse code.

They allegedly used Morse code to decipher and remember the code to the door, according to the Tennessee Board for Licensing Health Care Facilities.

Given that they both suffer from dementia, it’s remarkable that they were able to carry out this plan. Thankfully, a passer-by noticed the pair wandering near the facility and sensed something was wrong.

For 30 minutes, they were gone.
Then they were discovered. When they were ultimately brought back into the facility, they were questioned about how they managed to get past the security keypad on the door.

He ‘had worked with Morse code in the military,’ according to the husband. He was able to identify the entrance code by carefully listening to the sound of the keypad whenever a facility employee punches in the numbers.

With his illness, that is incredible.

Although the fact that the couple was successfully returned to the care home, the state fined the Elmcroft assisted living facility.

They had to pay $2,000 in total.
They also stated that they would raise the frequency with which they checked on the residents to ensure that an occurrence like this would not repeat again.

They’ve also started allowing the husband to go for ‘walking time outside the institution with a staff member present.’

‘At our long – term care facility, the safety of our residents is our primary priority,’ Elmcroft said in a statement. We are grateful that both residents were safely returned to the community.’

‘We promptly reported the matter to the state and their family,’ they said, ‘and fully worked with the state during its reviews.’

Every security code in the facility was altered to protect any more residents from escaping.

Despite the fact that this was an awful situation that could have gone horribly wrong if they hadn’t been located in time, we must commend the old couple for overcoming everything together.

It’s now clear how their connection has grown throughout the years. It only goes to show that when it comes to love, even a memory-robbing disease like Alzheimer’s is no barrier.
