By 1998, Johnny Depp had worked over his wild and single days. When he was invited to film Roman Polanski’s “The Ninth Gate” in France, he became a different man, but it wasn’t the picture that had such an impact on him.
Instead, Depp told how he met a woman in France who immediately drew him in. The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star recalled a memorable experience he had while staying at the Hotel Costes.
‘She was wearing a dress with an open back, and I saw that back and neck, and then she turned around, and I saw those eyes, and — bam!” the actor explained. Depp continued,’
‘It was the end of my life as a single man.’
He described how when he met the woman who would become his girlfriend, he experienced an undefined emotion that he couldn’t put his finger on. The star had noticed her from across the room and was perplexed as to what was going on with him.
Vanessa Paradis was the woman who had attracted his eye. She was a model, a French singer, an actress, and a friend of Depp’s whom he’d set up a drink with.
Paradis and Depp married in the same year. The actress then told The New York Times that she and Depp had instant chemistry and a connection even before meeting, saying:
‘The issue is, I was in love with him before I was with him, but we’d met.’
The model talked about their first encounter and how he shook her hand. Paradis knew he was the one right away, and that he not only looked wonderful, but that he was perfect in every way, adding: ‘He was very unique and kind. He simply appeared like a kind guy. There was no one better, I just knew it.’
WHY DID JOHNNY AND VANNESA NEVER GET MARRIED?
Despite the fact that Depp and Paradis never married, they appeared to have a healthy and happy family life. ‘I never found myself wanting that piece of paper,’ Depp told Extra in 2010, when asked why they never married.
According to the star, marriage was a heart-to-heart and soul-to-soul experience for him. As a result, he didn’t need to tell them they were married from the outside.
Paradis had stated in a 2011 interview that she shared Depp’s views on marriage. A wedding was romantic, and the reception was enjoyable, but ‘it’s a bit like the idea of a soulmate: I can’t see it for myself,’ she admitted.
The singer revealed that she knew a lot of married couples who were tearing each other apart in their relationships. She remarked that she didn’t care about celebrations because all she needed was love.
Paradis and Depp had been together for 13 years by 2011. The couple had two children, and in a recent interview with the Daily Mail, the ‘Edward Scissorhands’ star said their kids were health, joyful, and on the right track in life.
He praised his partner as smart, kind, and supporting. The actor joked that they’d been together for almost 14 years yet barely met the day before, and then went on to explain what made him pleased about their relationship.
Depp said his favorite thing to do with his fiancée before supper was to enjoy a glass or two of wine while watching the sunset with the kids nearby. Such a scene was described by the actor as ‘wonderful.’
Unfortunately, that perfection didn’t last, and the couple split up in June 2012. After meeting Amber Heard on the set of ‘The Rum Diary’ in 2011, Depp’s rep claimed that the former pair was ‘peacefully’ parting ways.
Paradis admitted before the couple’s breakup that she could generate infinite lists of reasons why she admired Depp. She explained that they realized they needed to give each other space in order for their relationship to evolve.
The actress talked about how they had to trust one other enough to let them walk off on their own. After relocating to Los Angeles from France, the former couple began to grow apart, according to a People magazine insider.
CHILDREN OF DEPP AND PARADIS
Paradis and Depp had a daughter, Lily-Rose Melody, and a son, John ‘Jack’ Christopher Depp, during their marriage. Jack was born on April 9, 2002, and Lily-Rose was born on May 27, 1999.
Depp’s daughter became a famous actress and model, following in her parents’ footsteps. She co-starred with him in the 2014 film ‘Tusk,’ and she reprised her role in the 2016 spinoff ‘Yoga Hosers.’
The ‘Lost in La Mancha’ actor stated in a 2000 French Elle magazine interview that he wants his children to learn about both American and French cultures. He stated that his children’s native language will be French, but that it was also crucial for them to be able to communicate in English.
Depp also wanted his children to learn about his birthplace, but he did not want them to grow up there. While living in France with his family, he thought America was too selfish, insane, and ‘too much everything.’
During their 2011 press tour for ‘The Rum Diaries,’ Heard claimed that she fell in love with Depp. Before Depp and Paradis announced their split, the two were ‘actually dating.’
‘We were in a bubble of secrecy,’ Heard explained. Despite the fact that both Depp and the actress were in serious relationships at the time, he allegedly sent her many presents.
Around two years later, Heard and Depp reunited for another press tour. Both celebs had broken up with their prior lovers and were in a relationship at the time.
They were so smitten that Depp did something he had previously opposed: he married. The couple were engaged in 2014 and married the following year.
However, the couple’s marriage fell apart as quickly as they had come together. Heard filed for divorce and got a protection order against her ex-husband within 15 months.
Depp was upset by his former, wife’s which he denied. He was more concerned about Jack, who was 14 at the time, because he believed it was difficult for him to go to school with all of the drama going on around him.
The actor was concerned that the young boy might be challenged by his classmates with magazines stating that Depp acting badly with women. The actor thought that his son and daughter were not deserving of such actions.
