Two of its residents have been characterized as ‘inseparable,’ and an animal shelter is celebrating their union.
Peanut, 9 years old, and Cashew, 3 years old, married on Wednesday at the San Antonio Humane Society (SAHS) in Bexar County, Texas, in an adorable ceremony.
The shelter went out of its way to create a little chapel and make it lovely with a bubble machine to make the event extra special.
Both Chihuahuas were surrendered to the shelter in April 2022 by their families who could no longer care for them, according to SAHS, a non-profit, no-kill organization in Texas.
The duo met at the SAHS medical facility amid this uncertain and stressful situation. Both were undergoing dental procedures at the time, and the link between them was immediate. The shelter believes it was love at first sight.
The team saw their loving friendship bloom over the weeks, and they eventually decided to arrange a ceremony in the hopes that the two cuties would find their permanent homes.
The dogs were neatly dressed for the romantic event, with one wearing a pristine suit and the other wearing a small bridal gown with a short veil.
According to Good News Network, ‘the ceremony was to commemorate their love and recovery journey.’ Lucia Almanza, a Public Relations Associate at SAHS.
‘Staff, volunteers, and our closest friends were there for their small, personal wedding. The celebration included a lovely trip down the aisle, bubbles, music, and, of course, cake!’
Almanza went on to say that the ceremony included a red carpet flanked by dog-shaped bushes.
‘We had several volunteers who built Peanut and Cashew a few days earlier. In their own time, they have their own church, equipped with a bubble machine for the dogs’ entertainment ‘she continued.
Peanut and Chestnut, Lucia added, are both available for adoption and can be taken home after individuation.
The staff at the SAHS, which was created in 1952, is hopeful that they will be able to locate a house together so that they can continue their honeymoon indefinitely.
