On June 9, the 24-year-old woman from Gujarat, India, married herself in an unique ceremony.
Kshama Bindu of Gujarat recently made headlines when she announced her intention to marry herself in India’s first-ever’sologamy.’
Instead of the much-publicized June 11 date, the wedding took place in a private ceremony at her home on Wednesday.
According to Indian media reports, no priest was present to officiate the wedding.
The Vadodara girl had previously stated that she intended to have a traditional Hindu wedding with all the rituals and vows, but Sunita Shukla, a leader of the ruling party (BJP), has stated that she will not allow the wedding to take place at the temple because self-marriage is not permitted in Hinduism.
‘I’d had this concept for a long time but didn’t think it was feasible. Then I came across the term ‘sologamy.’ That’s when I decided to marry myself: Kshama Bindu,’ she was quoted in a tweet as saying.
According to the Times of India, Kshama got her mehendi done on the occasion and instead of putting the name of her spouse, she dedicated her mehendi to herself, saying, ‘Just a lady who cares enough to try.’
