A 14-year-old boy founded a lawn care company to help fundraise for a cause that is very dear to his heart.
Tyce Pender of Cayce, South Carolina, is working hard to help his stepfather, Eric Jenkins, pay the legal costs associated with adopting him and his older brother instead of buying a new gadget or bike.
Tyce has little recollection of his life before Eric, who started dating his mother Marcy in 2010 and proposed four years later, ever being in it.
‘Since the age of 2, he has served as a father figure for me. He has always been there for us and assists me with my studies,’ ToDAY Parents, Tyce spoke.
Eric and Marcy addressed the possibility of Eric adopting 15-year-old twins Tyce and Tylee two years after they wed.
Even a lawyer who recently volunteered to work pro gratis was hired by them. Although the family was fortunate to find a lawyer to take on their case, additional anticipated legal expenses are expected to cost the family several thousand dollars.
Despite this, the brothers and their stepsister Tierrianna, 14, want their parents to formally adopt them.
‘Eric teaches me respect, independence, and what a man should be, therefore this is significant. Eric is the person I’d want to live with if anything happened to my mother’ Tyce explained.
‘Court costs are high. I believed I could earn enough money to cover the cost of the adoption, ‘The 14-year-old recalled how his brother Jayden, who is now 21 years old, used to cut lawns for extra cash during the summers. Tyce wants to do the same to make money despite having little experience.
When his 36-year-old stepfather Eric was informed of his choice, he was very moved. “My role is to take care of Tyce. He has the proper intentions, ‘He told the publication.
It’s a powerful thing that Tyce wants to give this respect (to his stepfather),’ Tyce’s mother continued. So, Marcy bought Tyce a $192 battery-powered lawnmower last month so he could promote Tyce & Company Lawn Service on Facebook.
‘Hello, I’m Tyce. My mother got me a business loan today, and I was able to buy a rechargeable lawnmower. I’m 14 years old ‘ read the article. ‘I do have gloves and safety eyewear, and I’m hoping to find some yards to mow and perhaps even maintain.
I attend school during the week, but on Saturdays and Sundays, I am accessible certain afternoons and entire day. I also have a rake and an electric leaf blower. To be able to run my own business, I want to turn this into a business.’
He quickly acquired Sarah Larrabee in West Columbia as his first client. ‘I was a little intimidated at first. However, her yard wasn’t that large ‘Tyce described the encounter.
Larrabee, his client, was incredibly pleased with the results of his effort. It was just so wonderful, said Larrabee to WLTX. ‘It went so well, he was such a sweet kid, so courteous and just so thrilled to be there and excited to have his first job.’
The youngster has so far cut approximately 16 yards for $400, with Marcy and Eric covering the remainder of the adoption costs. “I’m incredibly happy for Tyce. He’s a good child ‘ said Eric.
