My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion may have stolen our hearts, but her husband actually took hers.
Dion still views René Angélil as her true love, despite the fact that he has passed away. Angélil died in 2016 from throat cancer, but she and her children are still having a hard time dealing with their loss.
According to Cheat Sheet, Dion first met Angélil in 1980 when she was only 12 years old. Dion didn’t know she had met ‘the only man she’d ever loved’ at the moment, despite the fact that nothing transpired.
Her brother brought a recording of her singing to Angélil, who reportedly broke down in tears upon hearing it and made the decision to turn her into a star.
He quickly assisted in her rise to prominence, and at some point they began to feel something for one another.
They started dating in earnest in 1987, and on December 17, 1994, they had a lavish wedding at Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal, Quebec. Their two-person household gradually grew to include their three children.
The lovely family was enjoying a happy life until 1999, when Angélil was diagnosed with throat cancer. He did enter remission following a protracted course of treatment, and he was cancer-free for a while.
But sadly, it came back in 2015, and Angélil spent years fighting it, which ultimately had a negative impact on his physique.
On January 14, 2016, he unexpectedly passed away at the age of 73, leaving his family devastated but yet pleased that he was no longer in pain.
‘It was quite difficult for all of us before he went. Seeing the love of my life pass away a little more each day is particularly difficult for me and my kids.
And when he went, I felt a little bit of comfort knowing that the only man I had ever kissed and loved was gone.
Yeah. In my entire life, I never kissed another man. So I was with my boyfriend, the guy of my life, and we were one.
As soon as he stopped hurting, I told myself, ‘He’s okay.’ He should not endure pain,’ She revealed.
Dion acknowledged how painful her husband’s passing had been during an interview with The Sun, but she also said that their children had it worse.
‘I prepare myself so that I won’t feel alone. As a result, I now share a massive bed with my twins.
They are giving me a lot of solace. I require them. I require them nearby. When they are ready to request their room, it will be available. We do, however, watch a lot of TV together. I’m learning about Disney’ She revealed.
Dion continued by saying that even after Angélil’s passing, she and her family still speak with him. ‘Every night, we give him a kiss. We say goodnight to him with a small picture as part of a routine.
The children then converse with him. And then we send the balloons into the air after they write words on them and place them in them ‘ She revealed.
The Grammy Award winner spoke up to Good Morning America about how she is coping with his passing and said, ‘He given me so much strength through all these years and so much luggage for me now to explore and for me to flap my wings.’ Added she.
‘Since I was a young child, I’ve experienced many amazing things, including growing up in this family, having lovely parents, getting married to the best man in the world.
Knowing that he is now at peace and is sleeping and will always be inside of me. And every day I see dad through the eyes of my kids.’
Dion described how she reassured her husband and begged him to leave in peace in an interview with ABC News. ‘For my career, you expressed concern. You were concerned for the kids.
You were constantly fretting. It is enough. The kids are all right. I’m good. We’re going to be fine, I assure you.
Leave now, if you would. I want you to not be concerned ‘ To Angélil, she spoke. When asked if she intended to find love again after his passing, Dion said,’ not now. I still have feelings for him.’
