Kevin Costner’s first wife and college sweetheart Cindy Silva was by his side while he gained notoriety in Hollywood during the 1980s.
Their romance began at California State University, Fullerton, where Silva, the school’s homecoming queen, was studying in biological science and Costner was majoring in business administration.
In contrast to Costner, who was merely a 5 foot 2 kid from Compton, Silva was a lovely raven-haired beauty and highly popular. She worked at Disneyland during the summer holidays.
Nevertheless, when they first met in 1975 at a party at the Delta Chi fraternity house, a spark immediately appeared between them.
Costner was immediately drawn to Silva, although the latter was perplexed as to why she would fancy him. Later, Costner admitted: I have always found it amazing that she would like me.
Silva was a stunning raven-haired beauty and very well-liked, in contrast to Costner, who was just a 5 foot 2 boy from Compton. She spent the summer working at Disneyland.
Nevertheless, there was an instant chemistry between them when they first met in 1975 at a gathering at the Delta Chi fraternity house.
Silva was intrigued by Costner at first, but he couldn’t understand why she would be. Costner later acknowledged: That she would like me has always amazed me.
In the late 1980s, his career began to take off, and soon he was regarded as one of the most popular performers in the business.Silva then began to worry about Costner’s heated interactions with female co-stars in some films.
She put up with watching her husband’s torrid on-screen encounters with actresses for 16 years, as well as several accusations that Costner had cheated on her. To the dismay of many, the couple announced their separation in 1994.
However, the couple claimed in their statement that all matters pertaining to their children and finances had been settled peacefully.
According to estimates, Silva received a $80 million divorce settlement. Following the divorce, Costner stated:
‘My faith was compromised. Everyone hopes their marriage would last, but it didn’t. Your time spent with your children, whom you love the most, will be cut in half. That is a substantial loss.’
Following his marriage to Silva, Costner once again entered the dating scene, falling in love with Bridget Rooney, with whom he had a son, Liam, in 1996.
Three years later, in 1999, that relationship came to an end, and the actor once more found himself looking for love.
This time, Costner and Christine Baumgartner, a fashion designer he initially met on a golf course in the 1980s while he was still married to Silva, got back together.
After all those years, they stumbled into each other again in a restaurant in 1999, both of them still single.
Soon later, Costner and Baumgartner began dating because Baumgartner was willing to try dating again. The pair were content together for four years until suddenly divorcing in 2003.
Baumgartner reportedly wanted to have children with Costner, but the actor was against the notion.
They ultimately decided to end their relationship because of this quarrel. Costner, though, had second thoughts about his opposition to having children once Baumgartner left his life.
Costner decided against having children with Baumgartner because he worried that he wouldn’t be a good father.
The performer said: ‘I was afraid to marry Christine. I was worried that I wouldn’t be a good father even though [she] wanted to have a child.’
However, the actor questioned whether his desire to avoid having children was strong enough to end a four-year relationship. He stated:
‘When I first opened my eyes, I wondered, ‘Am I going to lose a beautiful woman who is eager to be with me till the very end because I am frightened to say yes to a child?’
All it took was that. Sometimes you discover that what you fear the most will really save your life.’
However, Baumgartner had also issued a warning: ‘I’m going to wait for you, but not for very long, she warned. Come return to me when you have a change of heart.
I also did ‘Costner Admitted. In 2004, the couple got back together and exchanged vows in a stunning ceremony on their property in Aspen, Colorado.
They finally welcomed Cayden, their first child together, three years later, in May 2007. They welcomed their son, Hayes, two years later, and they once again became parents. Grace, a daughter, joined the family in June 2010.
INTERNAL MARRIAGE & PARENTING STORIES OF THE COUPLE
Costner talked on his long-lasting relationship with Baumgartner after almost 20 years of marriage.
The actor claims that although he and his wife have experienced their fair share of problems, being able to apologize has kept their marriage intact.
Although it may seem obvious, Costner questioned whether you would be willing to apologize even when you know you are right if you were able to declare your love for someone.
Costner revealed he and Baumgartner decided to raise their three children away from the spotlight and avoid bringing them to Hollywood movie premieres after the birth of their third child.
The family’s 165-acre Dunbar Ranch, located just outside Aspen, Colorado, is where the actor, his wife, and their children spend much of their time.
Costner added that the ranch, which has three lakes and a river running through it, is where he and his family spend the majority of their greatest time.
The actor said that it hasn’t always been simple to raise his children with Baumgartner as well as their step-siblings from his prior engagements.
The actor admitted that he sometimes wonders which of his children’s sets he cares about the more while they connect. Fortunately, though, he has shown them that there is enough place in his heart for him to love everyone.
He told his older children that if there was any envy, they should just learn to embrace one another because the younger ones wouldn’t spend as much time with him as they did.
