According to a recent piece in The Hollywood Reporter, comedian Steve Martin first met his wife of 15 years, Anne Stringfield, when she was fact-checking an article about him for The New Yorker. The rest, as they say, is history.
Martin claimed in the same profile that he has been discussing retirement for years, but Stringfield keeps him on the straight and narrow: My wife keeps saying,
‘You always say you’re going to retire and then you always come up with something.” Really, I have no interest in retiring. I’m not. I would, however, simply work a bit less.
He’s spending more time at home than ever, which explains why. I have a pretty nice family life,’ he claims. ‘I’m no longer willing to film a movie or move somewhere else to live. I cannot go missing for three months.’
However in his last interview Hollywood legend Steve Martin may be ready to embark on a new journey: retirement.
From ‘Saturday Night Live’ to ‘Father of the Bride’ to his current hit show ‘Only Murders in the Building,’ Martin has done it all.
He is an Emmy and Grammy Award winner for his extensive work, which includes writing, acting, music, comedy and producing.
Martin experienced two life-changing events in his late 60s: he became a father and his career experienced a rebirth.
Talking to ‘There is a period in your career when people are clamoring to see you,’ Martin tells The Hollywood Reporter. I must now take the initiative in my professional life.’
He has stated that he will retire when ‘Only Murders in the Building’ on Hulu concludes, thus he might not be appearing for very much longer.
The program, which features Selena Gomez and his close friend and regular associate Martin Short, has received a third season order.
Martin claims: ‘I’m not going to look for others after this television program is over. I won’t look for other films. I reject doing cameos. Oddly enough, this is it.’
