The composer of ‘Santa Baby,’ Philip Springer, performs a sonata on the piano.

Philip Springer is an incredibly gifted guitarist and songwriter. Philip created the well-known Christmas tune ‘Santa Baby,’ as well as a few more songs you’ve probably heard before!

The number of songs Philip was responsible for is astounding, including ‘Santa Baby,’ which was first performed by Eartha Kitt and has subsequently been covered by several mainstream performers, including Michael Bublé and Ariana Grande.

Philip penned the song when he was 27 years old, in 1953. He also wrote Frank Sinatra’s ‘How Little It Matters, How Little We Know.’

If those two songs weren’t enough to guarantee a successful music career for any songwriter, the astonishing list continues.

Elvis Presley – Neverending Story, Her Little Heart Went to Loveland by Aretha Franklin Moonlight Gambler, Frankie Laine The Next Time, Cliff Richard All Cried Out by Dusty Springfield Peek-A-Boo, Rose Murphy Oh John, Santa Baby, Rene Marie Teasin’, Connie Haines Oh John, The Chosen – off-Broadway musical by Eartha Kitt (book by Chaim Potok).

Philip began his music career in the 1940s in the ‘Brill Building,’ an office building on 49th Street in the New York City borough of Manhattan at 1619 Broadway. Since that day, he has been professionally writing music, producing successes over the years.

Philip graduated from Columbia College in 1950. His talent gained him the opportunity to create music for varsity shows, one of Columbia University’s oldest traditions and its oldest performing arts presentation.

He studied composition at Columbia College under Otto Leuning, a German-American composer and conductor who was an early pioneer of tape music.

He has now acquired a Masters of Art and a Ph.D. from the University of California, where he studied under Leon Kirchner, a visiting lecturer from Harvard University.

Philip’s talents have crossed generations, and even at 94 years old, he is still blowing everyone away with live performances on social media.
