She was only able to locate her mother because she made her quest known to the public. Eileen asked listeners to identify her mother on the well-known Irish radio program ‘RTE Liveline.’
She knew that her mother would have passed away by now, of course. She was relieved to learn that her mother was still alive and well after receiving assistance from a listener who was also a genealogist.
After hearing Eileen’s explanation of their visit, a man greeted her family and brought them into the Scotland home.
In the living room, she discovered her mother reading a newspaper. When she revealed her Irish origins to the 104-year-old, her mother immediately made the connection.
Eileen’s mother grabbed her hand when they were reunited and wouldn’t let go. Before Eileen and her family had to depart, they grew close and enjoyed three days together in Scotland.
Eileen returned to Joe Duffy’s ‘Liveline’ on May 9 of the same year to inform him and his listeners of her reunion with her long-lost mother.
Even better, she added that her mother had informed her that she also has two half-brothers, so her family is only continuing to grow!
