Kelly Clarkson has spoken about how she taught her children the difference between good and wrong.
In an interview, the mother of two stated that she will spank her children if they do not behave properly. She claims that this is normal practice in her home state of Louisiana, where she resides.
Clarkson was born in Fort Worth, Texas. River Rose, 5, and Remy, 3, are her two daughters from her first marriage to Brandon Blackstock, as are two stepchildren.
When asked how she disciplined her children, she stated, ‘I’m not beyond a spanking,’ which some find offensive. And she doesn’t mean a thrashing, just a slap on the backside.
She then excuses her behavior by noting that her parents spanked her and she performed well in life, therefore she is pleased with herself.
She went on to claim that she is always warned before doing anything. The Voice coach continued by stating that she is from the South, where spanking is customary.
She does admit, though, that doing so in public can be difficult because those who disagree are quick to condemn.
Over ages, people have questioned whether or not spanking is an effective method of punishment. Some believe it is safe, while others believe it is dangerous.
The American Academy of Pediatrics opposes spanking and other forms of ‘corporal punishment’ as a means of disciplining children.
