Australian James Garrison is known as ‘The Man with the Golden Wing’. But where did such an unusual nickname come from?
The thing is that James became the champion of the Guinness Book of Records, because he donated blood more than 1000 times, which saved the lives of millions of babies.
This person’s blood is different from normal. More than 50 years ago, doctors discovered special antibodies in it, which help to avoid Rhesus-conflicts.
Based on them, a vaccine was developed that can prevent the fatal risk that occurs between a woman and her child with different Rh factors.
But why did James start donating blood? He just stuck to his word like a real man should.
It all started with a complicated surgery Garrison underwent as a teenager. Then the boy needed 13 liters of donated blood and 3 months of rehabilitation treatment in the clinic.
James realized that his life was saved only thanks to those donors who gave their blood in time. That’s why he promised himself to become a donor when he turns 18.
And this action of James became priceless. Thanks to him, a huge number of women were able to become mothers, they gave birth to healthy children.
To date, Harrison has been credited with saving 2.4 million children. This man’s blood was also useful to his own daughter, who was able to give birth to a boy with his help.
For more than 50 years, James Garrison has stayed true to his oath. He still donates blood, because he is sure that life is the greatest gift that is given to a person at birth.
