Growing up in Linlithgow, West Lothian, England, Irene Gresty and Janet Henderson shared a neighborhood.
However, like many friendships, their relationship deteriorated over time.Irene got married, went abroad with her husband—a naval officer—and was sent to locations like Singapore.
She returned back to be closer to her family for retirement, but she had been living extremely close to Janet for three years without realizing it.
Irene, who is now 80 years old, claimed that her heart skipped a beat when she spotted her long-lost friend when the two crossed paths at an event hosted by the Bield senior residence.
‘We recognized each other right away.’‘As we sat down next to one another, she asked, ‘Is that you, Irene?’ and I simply chuckled and replied, ‘Yes, Janet!’
The last time we saw each other was a very long time ago, so I’m glad she said something. She claimed that she was certain it was me.
’I can’t believe my good fortune that it occurred; I was thrilled to see her again.’ We swapped numbers, so I’m really looking forward to our upcoming meeting because we have a lot of ground to cover.
‘We sometimes have friends reconciling after not seeing each other for a long length of time, but I don’t think we have ever had anything like this before,’ said Tracey Howatt, director of customer experience at Bield.
You never know when you’ll run across an old friend again, so it’s nice to see the two women reconnect.
