Seniors at the Colne View facility in Halstead, Essex, awoke to the sight of two penguins outside their door.

Pringle and Widget waddled through the corridors, investigating the Care UK home, accompanied by introductions using their lovely names.

Charming photographs of thrilled people caressing and cradling the penguins on their laps were quickly circulated on social media.

‘Wonderful seeing the penguins,’commented Ruth Silverlock.’I was surprised at how gentle they were,’ the 86-year-old stated.

‘They were fairly content just sitting in my lap, and they seemed to appreciate everyone’s attention.

’Residents, including Ruth, were joined by friends and family for the holiday celebration.

Tracie-Ellen Cornhill, a staff member, commented on the home’s Facebook page, ‘This was definitely the best time ever!’‘I adored the expressions on the faces of our beautiful family of residents.’

Several photographs showed penguins inspecting the numerous inside Christmas trees. In one image, a woman locks her gaze with a penguin standing on the floor next to her bed, apparently wondering if she was still dreaming.
