A veteran of the entertainment industry for 60 years, Donny Osmond continues to perform. And most of us know that this is an unforgiving industry.
There must be a trick to longevity like that.
Donny Osmond says that being consistent over the course of 44 years has been the key to his success.
In 1970, Osmond and his future wife Debbie met for the first time. When he and Debbie first met, they were only 16 and 15.
A teen idol and a cheerleader seemed like they were destined for one other from the start.
And despite their completely different backgrounds, they were able to find common ground and form a bond.
In an interview with PEOPLE, he remarked, ‘There was something simple about her, and I had a very difficult life.’
Reminiscing about his time as an internet sensation brings back warm memories.
When he made his solo debut at age 12, songs like ‘Puppy Love’ and ‘Go Away, Little Girl’ became massive hits all over the world.
According to Osmond’s interview, he ‘remembers being chased a lot,’ most frequently in the United Kingdom.
Osmonds fanaticism had hit those parts. We once had to duck beneath a table in a restaurant to avoid being trampled by a mob of screaming fans.
All things considered, though, there was only one type of attention that he craved. He broke down and sobbed to his sibling about how “lonely” he was.
Following this, Osmond’s engagement to Debbie came as a complete shock to his audience. After he shared his private love tale, he lost everything.
There are no longer any yelling fans, no need to avoid the mob, and no more chants of his name.
According to Osmond, he experienced a financial meltdown. It was all gone when he was done. But he still has Debbie, and she is the most important thing in his life.
He claimed that Debbie was the one constant in his life. In the process of performing Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, he revealed that he felt as though he were dying of worry.
It was the end result of many unsuccessful attempts.
He recalled that Debbie had suggested that he ‘go out there tonight and do an average show’ to PEOPLE.
‘It ended up being the best show I ever did because I gave myself an opportunity to make a mistake.’In a span of six years, Osmond gave almost two thousand performances of Joseph.
Osmond used it as a stepping stone to reestablish his artistic credibility. He moved to Las Vegas and has been featured on several reality shows since then.
Thanks to their five children, he and Debbie now have 12 lovely grandchildren.
Being in the same hopeless and seemingly unavoidable situation inspired him to become an advocate for mental health.
‘At 20 I really believed my professional life was gone,’ he stated. ‘I’m relieved that I’ll be able to conclude it the way I want to,’ she said.
