to nurse and comfort their infants to ensuring that their children eat scrumptious, healthy meals, even at the expense of their own nourishment.

Mothers will essentially do anything for their kids, and in situations where survival is at stake, their devotion might truly be tested.

The result in this instance was both devastating and heartwrenching.

In January 2017, Wyoming, Illinois resident Shelby Ann Carter, age 21, gave birth to a beautiful baby girl.

Shelby and her partner were ecstatic to have children, and the new mother embraced parenting right away as if she had done it her entire life.

The newborn daughter was Shelby’s entire world from the time of her birth, and she would do anything to keep her safe.

However, a terrible catastrophe happened at Shelby’s mother’s house, where he resided with the infant.

On January 30, a short time after the baby girl had been born, a sudden fire engulfed the home.

The flames grew quickly and thickly, and the smoke quickly filled the rooms.
Shelby realized there was no way out and that she needed to move quickly.

Shelby made frantic attempts to save her daughter as the smoke and flames engulfed the mother and infant.

The brave mother hastily buckled her child into her carseat and, in a decision that only a mother would make,

dropped her out the second storey window after realizing that there was no way to leave the house. The smoke eventually engulfed Shelby, who sadly perished.

Despite their best efforts, the firefighters were unable to put out the fire by the time they arrived at Shelby.

But amid the gloom, a single tiny light shined brightly. Because to her mother’s affection and prompt thinking, Shelby’s baby girl had survived.

One day after the fire, Stark County Sheriff Steve Sloan told the Peoria Journal Star, ‘The good news is, the baby got home and is doing wonderful.’

People from Wyoming came together to express their sorrow for the infant girl who had been abandoned by her mother.

A short while later, a fundraising was organized, and in a matter of weeks, it had garnered close to $40,000.

The community came together to support the family and took solace in the fact that her last deed was saving a child’s life.

Her memory will always be preserved. Shelby was hailed as a hero. The sacrifice Shelby made to save her daughter’s life will never be forgotten.

It’s really amazing that she was able to gather her wits to save her child… Ed Foglesonger, chief of the

Wyoming-Speer Fire Protection District, told The Washington Post, ‘I’d say it’s nothing short of a miracle the way it turned out.

Undoubtedly, it is. Shelby has demonstrated to everyone what a caring, selfless, and quick-witted mother she was,

and we are confident that her daughter will grow up understanding exactly how incredible her mother was.
