Reba is one of those uncommon musical treasures because she is genuinely so laid-back and genuine.

The 67-year-old music legend was up on a ranch in Chockie, Oklahoma, and is unabashedly a country girl.

She participated in a family band and helped with the cattle when she wasn’t in school. Reba loved barrel racing, and both her father and grandfather were famous rodeo champions.

Many of the ideals Reba maintained with her throughout her life came from her upbringing in the country.

She told People, ‘If you tell someone you’re going to be somewhere at a specific time, you show up. Mom and Daddy always told me that.

‘That’s the way I was raised.’

By 1990, she was already incredibly famous and had just become a first-time mother to her son, Shelby.

Despite having a famous mother, she was aware that she would need to exercise caution in order to raise him properly.

The GRAMMY-winning singer and her ex-husband, Narvel Blackstock, worked hard to teach their son, the professional race car driver Shelby, humility and respect for others.

She noted that many people had told her that ’you would never know’ that he was the recipient of so many blessings.

McEntire also has stated that she was a bit more selfish herself before having her kid changed her. She tried to be around him as much as she could.

And I brought him on the road with me with the best nannies,’ she gushed. I would fly home from concerts to wake him up, drive him to school,

and pick him up when I could not be there in person. We agreed to play until I had to leave for a concert later that evening. It was Shelby that I yearned to be with. Still do.’

The country singer has also spoken publicly about her son’s ADHD. When he was younger, he struggled to even finish a short book, but now that he’s in his 30s, he devours literature.

‘He’s always trying to improve and do better. His father did a fantastic job as well. Shelby is a gift from God to me. We’re very close.

Before meeting Shelby, I had become quite self-absorbed. The spotlight may have been on you before,

but then along comes a cute little person who needs you to keep them safe, feed them, love them, and educate them.

Reba is a very proud mother, but she is especially happy for her son now that he has married Marissa. Both the ceremony and reception in Walt Disney World looked like something out of a fairy tale.
