A beloved teacher has retired on her 95th birthday after an incredible 75 years of service. Check out the wonderful surprise that her students put together for her!

One of the most noble occupations in the world is teaching. One of a child’s most crucial life’s building blocks is their instructor.

In addition to parents, teachers play a significant role in a child’s upbringing to help them grow into good, responsible individuals.

However, the teaching profession is in danger of becoming obsolete in a world plagued by so much uncertainty and conflict.

Many teachers have sacrificed their lives to guarantee that great students are raised, despite the challenges the teaching profession faces.

Grace Adkins is one such educator who will retire on May 18, 2023, after 75 years of service. Amazingly, Adkins celebrated her 95th birthday on the day she retired,

and many of her past and current pupils attended Westwood Schools in Camilla, Georgia, to join her in the celebration. Adkins had a happy life, and she deserved to leave on a high note.

The nonagenarian was born in Doerun, Georgia, on May 18, 1928. Her mother, who was also a teacher, provided her with the motivation she needed to pursue a career in education.

Adkins started her career as a teacher while still a high school student, when she started instructing others.

She entered college as valedictorian after graduating. The enthusiastic instructor eventually went back home, though, after learning that there was a teacher shortage.

Adkins graduated with a master’s degree in education from Georgia Southwestern State University.

She was first employed to teach at Westwood Schools in 1976 and has since been a professor at Deerfield Academy in Albany, Georgia.

Since she first started teaching, Adkins has adhered to the principle that educators must meet students

Adkins decided it was time to retire from her beloved profession after 75 years of teaching. On May 18, 2023, her former and current students gathered at Westwood Schools in Camilla,

Georgia, to wish her a happy birthday and say goodbye. This day also happened to be her 95th birthday.

Adkins truly deserved the honor. Adkins revealed the following during a conversation with WALB on her teaching career:

‘Well, my life has been wonderful. Yes, as well as those who are learning. Adkins also made a point that every instructor need to follow. She uttered:

‘Every child is a winner,’ is my motto. And they don’t mind receiving assistance.The inspiring teacher asserted that she never thinks a kid can’t learn.

Instead, she researches the best teaching strategy for them and persists until she has. Over the years, many of her pupils have benefited from this strategy.

Vicki Davis, a former pupil of Adkins’ who she taught in fourth grade, provided testimony to the effectiveness of her teaching strategies in an interview she conducted with Davis in 2017.

Adkins discussed a former student of hers who had ADHD and wrote everything backward during the audio interview for Davis’s The CoolCat Teacher.

Adkins, the student, and his parents never lost up despite the difficulties, and he eventually became a vascular surgeon.

Adkins built a learning lab in 1982 in addition to teaching. She will still have an impact on pupils after she retires, for this reason. A 95-year-old man spoke:

To be able to assist kids in developing their skills in that area and gaining self-assurance is simply rewarding.

There should be more instructors like Adkins who encourage students to pursue their dreams in spite of obstacles.
