Umpires and referees receive a lot of criticism, as anyone who has ever watched sports, participated in them, or had any other connection to them will attest.

An official will hear complaints from each player throughout a game. The referees will receive feedback on

calls from the coaches, parents, and players. However, during a baseball game in Florida, there was no disputing one umpire’s decision.

An umpire in Jacksonville, Florida, who was officiating a game, can be seen acting to help defend a player in a video that was uploaded to YouTube.

The tragedy happened as the kids were having fun. As a player from the opposite club stood in the batter’s

box with a catcher ready to go, a coach on the mound was getting ready to throw a pitch. However, the action is briefly stopped.

A dust devil appears at home plate after the coach pitches the ball. The batter, who swing and missed, calmly leaves the field, while the young catcher, age 7,

remains in the center of the tiny sandstorm. The umpire, who is positioned off to the left, dives in to grab the catcher and pull him out of the whirling dust cloud.

After a few while, everything returns to normal. The game can now continue. But the umpire received praise for his unanticipated kindness.

A guy approaches the field, perhaps the coach of one of the two teams, and thanks the young umpire for his thoughtful gesture. The umpire receives a hearty pat on the back from the coach and a high-five.

Kindness can be demonstrated with little effort, as was the case with the umpire’s action during the game. However, that action might have unintended consequences that improve the lives of others.
