When it comes to wedding rituals, every family in the globe has its own traditions. In addition to applying henna on their hands and feet, some brides stuff sugar cubes into their gloves.
In a 2023 TikTok video that quickly went viral, a woman by the name of Brittany Dalena explained the history of the custom that her family had long practiced.
However, when it came time for her wedding, she chose to think creatively and step outside the norm. But not everyone approved of her choice.
A white two-piece dress with puffy sleeves and a pencil skirt is what the bride is pictured donning.
Simple accessories like earrings, bracelets, a white pocketbook, and a pair of white heels completed the ensemble.
In the video, the woman approached a person who was coming over for a hug until an older woman was startled when she saw her clothing up close and said, ‘Oh my God! No way!’
The bride then gave her a great hug, and the woman suddenly broke down in tears.
The TikTok user provided a slideshow of vintage pictures of other women in her family wearing the same outfit
on their wedding days toward the end of the video to provide context for what transpired in the footage.
Hers was quite different, though, because it appeared to have been altered, as she stated in the caption: ‘3rd generation wedding dress turned into a rehearsal dress.’
Online viewers expressed their varied perspectives about the daring act she pulled off as the dress
looked different than it did when some of her female family members wore it after the video was aired on both her Instagram and TikTok accounts.
A commenter commented that the older woman’s reaction was lovely and that the attire looked excellent, commenting, ‘The dress is really gorgeous.
I started crying after seeing grandma’s response. I adore this. Was the change entirely unexpected? Grandma
was there, but did she know? In any case, I’m sure it was great to see it on her. Super sweet.’
Another user echoed the initial commenter’s feelings, stating that the bride’s gesture was ‘so purely sweet’ for them.
Despite the favorable remarks, there were also some that were critical since some users believed that changing the garment into a two-piece set was improper.
One of them asked, ‘Why on earth did you think it was okay to cut and ruin your mother’s wedding dress?’
The clothing was even ‘damaged’ by the change, according to one user, who wrote, ‘She damaged the dress
and the good memories of her mother.’ I believed it to be the actual dress and not the damaged one.
Fortunately for the bride, several users continued to support her and defend her for her conduct,
with one account claiming that it is not appropriate for anyone to spread hate speech on the bride’s special day.
In her original post, Dalena made it clear that the dress was only worn for the rehearsal; according to the images she posted on Instagram, she wore a different outfit on the actual wedding day.
