A homeless man sold a rare item for $20. The buyer decided to find him because the real cost of that item was…

In the center of the Canadian province of Alberta, the city of Edmont, there is a small antique shop called Curiosity, Inc.

Its owner, Alexander Archbold, is constantly on the lookout for a wide variety of rare and antique items.

And he was helped in this by an equally unusual assistant named Adam Gillian, who sometimes brings him his findings.

The fact is that Adam used to be homeless – until one fateful day he brought Alexander an old Disney picture,

which turned out to be much more valuable than it seemed to both of them. Upon learning of this, Alexander found Adam and shared the proceeds with him.

It took him two weeks to find the homeless man. This video was recorded at this time. Fortunately,

the search was successful, and Alexander was eventually able to not only give Alexander his share of the sale, but also help him find a job and return to his family.

Adam Gillian

Many of us do not have to constantly worry about warmth, clean water and food, because we have our own home.

Unfortunately, there are people who don’t. According to the organizers of the World Cup among the homeless,

only in Canada the number of people left homeless is 235 thousand people, 75% of whom are forced to struggle with mental illness. Adam Gillian was also one of them.

According to Absolute History, Adam used to live in Stratford, a city in southern Ontario, but moved to Edmonton with his wife and four children.

At first he was a plasterer, but then he lost his job, and then his whole life went downhill. Adam was forced to fight depression.

Soon, his three children were placed in foster families, since he himself could no longer provide for them. He also divorced his wife.

After that, he was left without a roof over his head and wandered the Edmonton streets for three whole years.

From time to time, friends or owners of local eateries allowed him to spend the night. The homeless are bad everywhere,

but in Edmonton it is even worse, because the winters here are very severe. In order to earn at least a few dollars,

Adam was forced to rummage in search of more or less valuable things in the trash cans. Such people are sometimes called ‘garbage collectors’

they earn their living by climbing garbage dumps. Every time Adam managed to find something interesting,

he immediately went to Curiosity Inc. and showed the find to Alexander Archbold, who at times agreed to buy it.

Alexander Archbold

Alexander Archbold, owner of Curiosity Inc. According to their YouTube page, located in the center of the Canadian province of Alberta,

the city of Edmonton, Curiosity Inc. store. engages in ‘the sale of antiques and rare items and the sale of old motorcycles.’

The store was opened in 2016, and Alexander himself has been fond of collecting all kinds of rarities since childhood.

This story took place in 2018. Adam, then, as usual, looked into the store to try to sell a few things he found.

After reviewing the contents of the plastic bag with the ‘catch’, Alexander drew attention to the old picture

of the Disney deer Bambi in a dirty frame. It depicted a scene from the famous cartoon in which baby Bambi first meets his forest friends.

Alexander offered 20 dollars for it – it seemed to him that he could sell it to collectors several times more expensive.

What was his surprise when a little later he found evidence on the back of the frame that the picture was painted back in 1937.

As it turned out, in his hands is not an ordinary picture, but a layout that was used when creating that same cartoon by animators!

And then he found out how much it really cost – several art galleries priced it at $ 3,500. Upon learning of this,

Alexander immediately decided to give half of this amount to Adam: in the end, it was he who managed to find this treasure!

‘When I found out how much it cost, I immediately decided that it would be wrong to take all the proceeds for myself,’

the owner of an antique shop told CNN in 2018. Ultimately, Alexander managed to sell the picture on eBay for 3,700 Canadian dollars USA).

After that, he began to search for his homeless friend. It was not easy to find him – nothing surprising, because Adam did not have a home address or phone number.

Alexander traveled all over Edmonton in his car for two whole weeks before he managed to find him.

Lucky for us, the owner of the antique shop and the father of three made sure to record everything that happened on a video camera, which ultimately led to this 22-minute video.

The first part of it is devoted to trips around Edmonton in search of Adam. ‘The problem is that I have no idea where to look for it,’ Alexander tells the audience.

To begin with, he decided to travel to all the places where, according to his information, his homeless friend sometimes appears.

Unable to find him there, Alexander began to comb the entire district, not missing a single lane. In the video,

he says that if he fails to find Adam, he will definitely go to the city center suddenly his friend decided to stay in one of the homeless shelters there.

Adam eventually reappeared at Curiosity Inc. Alexander asked him to meet him at the hotel the next day, under the pretext that he wanted to interview him for his YouTube channel.

During the meeting, he gave him $1,700, half of the proceeds. ‘Wow, cool!’ Adam’s voice is heard in the video published by Alexander.

‘I don’t even know what to say.’ But this was not the end of Alexander’s blessings. He soon set up a GoFundMe page

to collect donations to buy a flight ticket for his friend to his hometown and pay for the rent of some small apartment.

‘The video does not say anything about this, but, in fact, Adam got all the money,’ Alexander writes in the video description. ‘We spent the second half on food, clothes and an air ticket.’

A little later, Alexander managed to collect 8 thousand dollars in donations only two thousand less than planned.

Adam is probably still pinching himself to see if he’s asleep. Indeed, it’s hard to believe some kind strangers helped him get back on his feet.

In the video, Alexander says that he feels compassion for the homeless, because he also had to go through it.

‘My mother worked three jobs, but we didn’t have a home,’he explains. ‘When I was a child, we were also very poor, and sometimes we had to live on the street spent time living in hotels.

Alexander began to get involved in collecting rare items at school, and later took up this professionally. ‘I just wanted to have a normal life and I managed to achieve this,’ he says.

‘I had to help my parents with money, so I started selling antiques early,’ Alexander says in an interview with CNN.

The owner of the antique shop even helped Adam with finding a job in a new place in the city where his family lives.

In addition, he shared a social service phone number with him and did not even forget to give sandwiches for his wife to take with him.

‘I often go to other people’s basements in search of things that have become unnecessary for the owners,’ says Alexander. I’m sure he’ll be able to find a job. I wish him all the best.’
