The reunion of troops with their families is one of life’s most touching moments. Hero Captain Kody Kermerling and his twin children,
who are college-aged, are at the focus of this specific tale. Due to his 10-month deployment to Kuwait, Maria and Micaela were unable to have their father
drop them off for college. But he paid a special visit to the University of Missouri for one of the most important games of the year.
Organizing the unexpected visit involves everyone at the college. The twins’ coach persuaded them to recognize their father as the “Veterans United Hero of the Day” during the game.
We had no idea that our dad was going to be there, Micaela said, ‘We were cheering at the Mizzou basketball
game and we just got told that we were going to go and represent our dad out there for the Veterans United Hero of the Day.”
Micaela was turned around by a hand while the females were cheering on the ground. I suddenly felt someone grasping
upon me,’ Micaela recalled. My first thought was, ‘Who is grabbing me? What’s going on?’ I then recognized it was him when I turned around.
The moment the twins realized it was their father, they burst into tears and embraced him. The University of
Missouri, their cheer coach, and everyone else worked together to make this wonderful reunion happen.
For America, our soldiers give so much of themselves. Giving up valuable family time, such as dropping off your girls at college,
is a common form of sacrifice. The entire stadium cheered when Captain Kody Kermerling arrived home safely for a very special surprise visit!
