Early on in the film, the two major characters—an elderly woman and a young child—are presented. The older woman, known as ‘bisnonna,’ is the little girl’s grandma.
They are engaged in a vigorous debate, but you will be completely lost if your only language is English. There are a lot of hand gestures in this talk, which is typical of Sicilians.
The old woman raises her hands in a clapping motion and then raises and lowers them. Not long later, the child mimics her, cheering and saying incoherent things.
In addition, the grandmother holds out her hands, shakes them back and forth in a ‘prayer’ motion, and makes a motion with her head. It seems the young one was listening.
This is what makes this movie so adorable—she doesn’t exactly replicate every gesture, but she does mimic most of them.
It’s funny to watch these two argue back and forth. Everyone was excited to hear Grandma’s thoughts.
To see if anyone had any recommendations, we checked the comments area. It happens that they did!
It seemed like the topic of conversation throughout was ‘Grandpa not listening.’ It’s true that the small child is probably oblivious to the situation.
Nevertheless, the entire movie is much more enjoyable to watch now that you know the conversation is about Grandpa!
