Don the loincloths! The three gave their first joint performance of ‘Actor’ of the evening, reuniting more than 18 years after the iconic movie’s premiere.
A reunion of the cast during a ceremony honoring them? pioneering by nature.
There isn’t any irony in this scenario, though, because Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt—all
three stars of The Devil Wears Prada—reunited at the 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards, more than eighteen years after the film’s seminal 2006 release, and for a very creative reason.
Meryl Streep, who is 74 years old, Anne Hathaway, who is 41, and Blunt, who is also 41, presented the first prize of the evening at the live streamed awards event on Saturday night on Netflix.
The ‘Actor’ award, which recognized a male actor for an exceptional performance in a comedy series,
was given out by them. The Bear, performed by Jeremy Allen White, was the recipient of the prize.
The first performer to walk the stage by herself was Streep. She ‘accidentally’ hit that microphone while admitting that she had lost the envelope and her reading glasses.
She said, ‘Two things, I clearly forgot my glasses and the envelope,’ just as Blunt and Hathaway
entered the stage and saved the day by carrying the mail and her glasses, respectively. ‘I obviously forgot to do these two things.’
Where does the role end and the actor begin is a perennial topic that Streep continued, but Blunt cut her short with,
‘Well, as we’ve just seen, Meryl and Miranda Priestly are sort of like twins, right?’ It’s an old question, Streep went on.
Using one of Miranda’s many well-known one-liners from the movie, Hathaway shot back at Streep’s assertion that she does not think she is ‘anything’ like her character: ‘No, no. It was not up for debate.
When Hathaway urged Streep to present the trophy, Blunt answered, echoing another scene from the film,
‘By all means, move at a glacial place you know how that thrills me.’ When presenting the award, Streep appeared to be taking her time.
The moment was funny, even though it was short. It’s also crucial to note that Hathaway was dressed in
a gown with a cyan blue hue. It is truly cerulean, not just blue, not turquoise, nor lapis, or just blue.
The Devil Wears Prada is the name of the film version of Laura Weisberger’s 2003 book of the same name, which debuted in June of 2006.
Meryl Streep portrayed Runway magazine’s chief editor, Miranda Priestly, in the film, as was previously disclosed.
Since the author had previously served as Wintour’s assistant, there have long been rumors that Weisberger based the character on Vogue editor Anna Wintour.
Hathaway played Andrea ‘Andy’ Sachs, an aspirational journalist working as Miranda’s assistant and
lacking any prior expertise in the fashion industry. Blunt portrayed Miranda’s junior helper, Emily Charlton.
Patricia Field received a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Costume Design for her role in the 2007 comedy-drama,
while Meryl Streep received a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Actress. Meryl Streep was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award as well.
Blunt and Streep both received nominations for the 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards during this time.
Meryl Streep and the other members of her ensemble were nominated for an award for Outstanding Performance
by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series for their work on the comedy series Only Murders in the Building.
For her role in Oppenheimer, Blunt was nominated for an ‘Actor’ award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role; however, Da’Vine Joy Randolph (The Holdovers) was the winner.
The winner of the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Motion Picture award went to Blunt and the other members of her Oppenheimer ensemble.
