The flower with the complex name Epiphyllum (Epiphyllum Oxypetalum) is better known as the Queen of the Night.

And this nickname was not given to the plant by chance, because this type of epiphyllum blooms only one night a year. Flowering is so rare.

This type of epiphyllum belongs to cacti, specifically to the cereus species. There are many night swallows.

They are known to bloom at night. But while other plants can bloom for about a week, the occipital blooms only for one night.

A flower in bud can hang around for a few days and then at some point bloom right in the middle of the night.

Only a few hours later, closer to dawn, the flower remains a lasting reminder of the night’s bright event.

In the wild, the nightshade grows in Central America, Mexico and the Antilles. In recent years, tourists come to see the bloom, but not everyone manages to catch the epiphyllum in all its glory.

Why are there wild conditions? It is not so easy to catch a blooming flower even on one’s windowsill.

They say that earlier even on this occasion, parties were held in the houses of the rich. At least in

1937 there was even an article about such an event in the local newspaper of the American city of Rhode Island.

So why did epiphyllum choose such a strange flowering time? The point is that bats pollinate flowers, which is why they only bloom at night.

By the way, bats are not only capable of pollinating flowers. We said that they even maintain the library of Portugal.

But how to predict that a flower will bloom? Here the owners have their own methods. Night princess is known to bloom in spring or summer.

Then only assumptions remain. Someone believes that epiphyllum blooms during the full moon, and others say that after heavy rains.

At all other times, the Queen of the Night resembles a cluster of cactus stems, very large by the way; even at home this type of epiphyllum can grow up to three meters.

Well, in the wild, Epiphyllum oxypetalum is simply a giant; plants can reach a height of twenty meters.
