In August 2020, six-year-old Jessica Love received a leukemia diagnosis. When a reputable medical expert says the word ‘cancer,’
it can be a terrifying and transformative experience. But it must be particularly devastating for a parent to learn that their child has cancer.
Laura Smith, Jessica’s mother, described how it felt to know her daughter had cancer but be helpless to stop it.
Laura fought back tears as she remarked, ‘As a parent, where you want to protect and cure all the ‘owies’ and do all the things for your kiddos, and not being able to do that is really hard.’
Jessica had been cancer-free for almost two years after her diagnosis. Thank God!
Jessica was brought to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, to spend time with Mickey, Minnie, and all of their friends after overcoming that terrible illness.
Laura said it was the ideal getaway, a suitable conclusion to the terrifying experience.
However, Jessica’s amazing experience at the Florida theme parks wasn’t the only one throughout the trip. A member of the aircraft crew gave Jessica a special message on their way back home.
The flight attendant spoke to the aircraft, ‘We wanted to recognize the very, very special guest that we have on board here today.’
Are you ready for this? She recently overcame cancer. We would like to welcome you home from the entire Southwest team and,
I’m sure, from all of your fellow travelers. We hope you have a long, happy, healthy, and prosperous life.
