Singer Billie Eilish and her brother, producer Finneas, at the 2024 Oscars last night. Many were left scratching
their heads when actors Quannah Chasinghorse, Ava DuVernay, Ramy Youssef, and Mark Ruffalo all wore pins on their clothing.
Subsequently, the pin was also seen on actor Mahershala Ali, who introduced this year’s Best Supporting Actor nominees on stage rather than on the red carpet.
Many wondered what the pin meant because it didn’t look like any of these superstars had collaborated on the same project.
In question was a round crimson pin with the outline of a hand encircling a little black heart.
Many folks were left perplexed as to what the pin signified. In an effort to support the demand for an end to Israel’s war on Gaza, the artists wore these buttons.
Over 30,000 people have died since October 7th, according to Palestinian health authorities, when Israel began its war on Gaza.
People are mobilizing more than ever in favor of a ceasefire in the area as the murder of Palestinian civilians approaches its sixth month. Hollywood and other artists have also joined the appeal for peace.
More than 400 celebrities signed on to the Artists4Ceasefire initiative. In late October, the campaign released a letter pleading with US Congress and President Joe Biden to demand a quick ceasefire in Israel and Gaza.
However, only a small number of celebrities wore the pins advocating for a ceasefire at the 2024 Oscars,
in contrast to the pins that represented movements like the Time’s Up campaign in 2018 which were worn by nearly every celebrity on the red carpet.
Only Boygenius and Annie Lennox were spotted wearing identical pins at the Grammy Awards earlier this year, with Lennox standing out for her on-stage request for a cease-fire.
On the red carpet, actors Milo Machado-Graner and Swann Arlaud, who starred in the movie Anatomy of a Fall, were also spotted donning pins depicting the Palestinian flag.
Co-star of ‘Poor Things’ with Emma Stone and Mark Ruffalo, comedian and actor Ramy Youssef expressed
his anger with the lack of progress in the appeal for a truce and the eventual conclusion of the assault against Gaza.
Youssef alluded to the request for a truce in an interview by saying, ‘There’s no other route.’ It’s taking a long time. That’s what we’re all urging people to speak up about.
America Ferrera, Jennifer Lopez, Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, and Ben Affleck were among the other celebrities who signed the Artists4Ceasefire letter.
