Music-wise, the 1970s were a fantastic decade. With their ageless, iconic classics, artists like James Brown, Elton John, and Stevie Wonder were topping the charts.
In addition, the 1970s saw the height of success for bands like Fleetwood Mac, Queen, The Rolling Stones, and The Eagles. The decade of the 1970s was one that completely altered music!
One man, Brooklyn, New York resident Gene Taylor, 33, gave an incredible performance in a YouTube video,
singing a song from a different band from the 1970s. Gene’s rendition of Journey’s “Lights” stunned both the judges and the studio crowd.
Gene is a really gifted musician. His voice is mellow and comforting from the minute he begins to sing.
John Legend shows his interest in the Brooklyn singer by slamming his button a few seconds into his performance. He then turns his chair to observe the remainder of Gene’s cover.
Following John’s example, Dan + Shay, Reba McEntire, and Chance the Rapper push their buttons and turn their chairs to face Gene.
Following an amazing vocal performance, all four judges stand, granting the incredibly gifted young vocalist a well-earned standing ovation.
Gene’s voice has such a distinctive, lovely tone. It was a great fit for the Journey song, almost exactly mimicking the original vocals.
In an attempt to persuade Gene to join their squad for the season, each of the four judges makes their strongest sales presentation.
After some back and forth with the judges, Gene announces that he was adopted as a baby, calls his mother out on stage, and chooses John to be his coach.
It will be intriguing to watch Gene’s performance in the competition. Gene will most likely succeed greatly with a voice like that.
