People can show off their God-given skills on shows like American Idol, The Voice, and America’s Got Talent.
People who win those programs do and can change their lives for good. The people who take part and the people who win are affected, but so are their families.
Most of the people who go on those shows say that they’re not just there for themselves, but also for other people.
A big part of what drives them is wanting to give their kids a better life. That was definitely the case for Dawson Slade, a 17-year-old boy. Dawson is already a proud dad at age 17.
Stetson Slade, his son, is ‘the best thing that has ever happened” to him, he says. He said that his son was ‘the cutest little person in the world.’ Dawson says that there is ‘no doubt about it.’
Dawson played the guitar and sang ‘I Hope You Dance,’ a 1961 hit by Lee Ann Womack, for his tryout. But after his show, not all of the judges were sure about him.
He had to say no to Lionel Richie. They told him that they thought he had potential. They didn’t all say no right away; instead, they gave him one more chance to show what he could do.
He tried to sing a Justin Moore song. Luke Bryan cast the deciding vote, and Katy Perry said yes on his third try.
The young dad is now going to Hollywood. The 17-year-old boy, who already has a son named Stetson, tries to change his life and give his son everything he needs.
