that her public persona suffered as a result of her tearful 1999 Oscar acceptance speech for Best Actress for her performance in ‘Shakespeare in Love.’

Paltrow clarified that during the awards ceremony, she sensed a change in the public’s opinion of her and a turn away from those who had previously supported her.

She remembered how the British press had been especially harsh on her at the time, and she blamed the unfavorable reaction on her tears during the acceptance speech.

Paltrow admitted that she was going through a trying moment because, at the time, people were unaware that her father was receiving cancer treatment.
