Crossing Guard’s Brilliant Method Of Making People Happy

Certain professions provide glamour, power, status, or financial independence. Yet a lot of occupations are rather routine and unremarkable.

Even though a work or duty may be uninteresting, the person performing it has the power to change everything!

Lenzo Thompson works as a crossing guard in Tennessee’s Rutherford County. He has spent the last two years ensuring that traffic around Christiana Middle School flows freely and that children arrive at the school without incident.

That’s a really significant—and occasionally difficult—job. Although Lenzo brings a lot of personality and excitement to the daily routine of drop-offs and pick-ups, it’s still a job that should be treated seriously.

You see, during the academic year, Lenzo celebrates holidays by dressing up in costume. He has dressed up as Santa Claus for Christmas, as a leprechaun for St. Patrick’s Day, and as Cupid for Valentine’s Day.

He wore a blue bunny suit around Easter, which was a staff favorite. He’s sporting his amazing birthday outfit here,

which is actually a suit. He looks great in his navy blue jacket and slacks, covered in bright balloons.

Lenzo completes the colorful attire with a sash and crown. In the footage, he can even be seen sporting a furry brown costume and clutching gallons of fruit drink.

Given that Christiana Middle School is the home of the Cougars, that may very well be his huge cat costume! Lenzo makes amazing costumes, all of them!

Mr. Thompson’s excellent work extends beyond his sense of style. He also has an exceptional work ethic. Lenzo did a great job, as noted by Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office Sgt.

Dustin Cox, who said, ‘Lenzo comes to work sick.’ No matter the weather—hot, cold, or rainy—Lenzo is always there and always wears a smile.

His excitement is contagious, and both parents and children wave and welcome him as they enter and exit each day. For Lenzo, those exchanges are really important.

He said to NewsChannel 5 Nashville, ‘You know, it makes me feel better when the kids start waving and everything.

For me, the kids come first. Lenzo’s costumes brighten everyone’s day as they pass by his intersection,

and his luminous vest and gloves keep him and others safe. He’s setting a terrific example for all of us by spreading delight and taking pride in his work!
