Before she passed away, Shannen Doherty was last seen being photographed in public, this time around she was with a close friend.

The late Beverly Hills 90210 actress was captured on camera wandering around Kristy’s Malibu a month prior, on June 16, alongside her lifelong friend Chris Cortazzo.

At 53 years old, the star departed from this life on July 13. They appeared in a group shot. Doherty had a suitcase in her arms and the real estate agent was strolling next to her,

covering her shoulder as they went about their business. Doherty’s casual outfit included jeans, a gray blouse, and a black messenger hat as accessories.

Following the announcement of the late actress’s death, Cortazzo shared a moving tribute to the star

that featured a collage of images showing the two of them at various points in their lives along with the words “My beloved friend and heart.”

“What memories and laughter we have shared through this journey,” he wrote on Instagram, mentioning his travels.

You were my guardian angel, my best friend, and my spouse in heaven. My heart is shattered beyond repair.

I love you forever, my sweetheart and best friend. He signed the message “Your Christopher,” according to what’s written.

An extract from Doherty’s November 2023 interview with PEOPLE, in which she talked about her close relationship with Cortazzo and his family,

is included below: “I have a male best friend who I joke with that we’re married to, and we’ve had a lot of success together.

We just love each other and hang out, and I kind of think of them as my kids.” The actress also shared several of her own photos that she had shot with Cortazzo on social media.

In September 2023, she posted a picture of herself with Cortazzo to Instagram with the remark, “Dinner time @chriscortazzo.”

The actress from Charmed shared a photo of herself and Cortazzo in January. She captioned the Instagram photo she shared with the words, “Date night and really really good lighting.”

In the same month, Cortazzo also appeared on Doherty’s podcast, Let’s Be Clear. They discussed their relationship as well as the health issues facing the Charmed alum throughout their talk.

In reaction to his statement, “Do you know that the only time I saw fear in your eyes was when I was having brain surgery?” she said.

The actress made this information public in June 2023 when she stated that she had underwent surgery and that her cancer had spread to her brain.

“Yes,” was his reply, to which she replied, “I did not think I was going to be me after that surgery.”

“I am aware of that,” he remarked. “But it broke my heart to watch you look into each other’s eyes and see your mother look at you and you looking at your mother because it was the three of us,”
she remarked. “The three of us were there.”

He stated, “You are so helpless as a friend because there is nothing you can do and you just said, ‘I love you, mommy,’ and you know,

we held your hand going down the hallway and then… your mom had to say goodbye and it was brutal,” as she was struggling to control her feelings.

On June 14, news broke that Doherty had died following a protracted, multi-year fight with cancer.

I regret to notify you of the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. With sorrowful heart, I say this.

After battling the illness for many years, Doherty’s longtime publicist Leslie Sloane told the media, “She lost her battle with cancer on Saturday, July 13. Her dog, Bowie,

and her family surrounded the cherished daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Her buddies were all around her as well.

“The family requests that they be granted privacy during this trying time so that they can grieve in peace,” Sloane stated.
