Celebrated for his long and successful acting career, Jeff Daniels has been nominated for Tony, Emmy, and Golden Globes.
He has shown off his skills in movies like Dumb and Dumber, Speed, and Arachnophobia. His musical ability, which was frequently underappreciated, was highlighted during his guest spot on The Kelly Clarkson Show.
Jeff performed his original song “When My Fingers Find Your Strings” onstage while holding an acoustic guitar.
He described the song as an homage to his guitar and said it was inspired by times he spent on the porch with his “best friend, the guitar.”
Kelly Clarkson was clearly moved by his performance and asked the audience, “What is happening?” By the end of the moving performance, Jeff and Kelly were in tears.
Both the online and the studio audiences were riveted. In less than ten days, the performance video received over 1.4 million views. One fan said,
“Jeff Daniels isn’t even known for music, yet that was one of the most heartfelt, poetic, and well-structured songs I’ve ever heard.”
Others praised his musical ability. Not to add some really impressive guitar work. People, that is talent!
Jeff revealed to Kelly in the interview that he had written about 450 original songs in his career. He disclosed that, especially in the early years of his acting career, songwriting provided him both comfort and a creative outlet.
It gave him a sense of control and a backup plan in case acting proved to be ineffective. He made a lighthearted joke about his ability to “fail as an actor and then fail as a singer-songwriter” while considering his range of skills.
He has obviously done remarkably well in these areas. The video below features Jeff Daniels’
moving performance.
