Actor George Lazenby, 84, has formally retired. On July 24, the former James Bond actor made the announcement on X and Instagram.
It’s time to announce my retirement from work, even if it wasn’t an easy decision to make. Thus, as of right now,
I’m going to stop performing, appearing in public, giving interviews, and signing autographs,” he wrote, attaching a picture of himself.
In addition, Lazenby praised his buddy and manager of the previous 11 years, Anders Frejdh, calling him the “best representative I ever had,” for his assistance.
I’m able to focus on spending more time with my family now. I want to express my heartfelt appreciation to everyone for their love and support throughout the years. It’s quite meaningful to me.
In the 1969 movie On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, the 84-year-old Australian actor made his big screen debut as
the second actor to play the renowned character James Bond. His time as an MI6 agent was, however, brief since he played 007 in just one movie before Sean Connery took over.
After departing from the Bond franchise, Lazenby had trouble getting back into acting. He once said that he was unhireable.
Despite landing a few roles in Australian made-for-television films, Lazenby was not content and decided to return to Los Angeles to start acting classes.
He placed an advertisement in Variety in 1978 showcasing his acting abilities. He was cast in a minor role in the 1979 movie Saint Jack the following year. His IMDb profile states that he went on to feature in over 60 films and TV shows.
