<\/p>\nHaving children quickly changes the course of our life, and this transformation may be difficult to describe to someone who has never experienced being a mother or a father.<\/p>\n
Simply put, the great majority of us would go to any length to defend our children and keep them safe.
\nThe thought that anything horrible may happen to them is enough to make us sick to our stomachs – but it is our job, and it is our obligation, to be ready to act when the time comes.<\/p>\n

What happens, though, when the roles are switched? What if a\u00a0parent is in desperate need of life-saving treatment, and the children are left to decide what direction destiny will take?<\/p>\n
On the morning of April 12, 6-year-old Macie Semrau decided she did not want to go to school because she just did not want to. She was so desperate to stay at home with her little\u00a0brother and dad\u00a0that her mom, Kate Semrau, ultimately gave in and allowed\u00a0her to stay.<\/p>\n
Father Kyle Semrau, who is 37 years old and works night shifts, awoke that morning feeling ill.<\/p>\n

He took a turn for the worse when his partner Kate went out.\u00a0\u00a0 According to sources, Macie initially recognized something was wrong when she heard her father screaming in distress.<\/p>\n
After making their way down to the basement, she and her brother Caleb were met with the horrifying sight of their father slipping in and out of consciousness.<\/p>\n
Thankfully , Macie was able to maintain her calm. She took her father’s iPhone, and while he was having fits, she was able to get his password from him. She then used Safari to look out the local police department and spoke with the administrative assistant who worked there.<\/p>\n

Caleb, who was four years old at the time, did all he could to calm his father.
\nKyle was taken to Wentworth Douglass Hospital in Dover, New Hampshire, by first responders who arrived on the scene quickly. He was there for three days, receiving oxygen therapy.<\/p>\n
In addition, the Elio Police Department gave tribute to Macie’s fast thinking on their social media pages.
