When Brad Ryan realized that his 92-year-old grandmother Joy had never seen mountains, he devised a plan. <\/p>\n

Brad wanted his grandmother to witness her first mountain. She inquired, \u2018What time are you picking me up?\u2019 when he asked whether she wanted to visit Great Smoky Mountains National Park.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

In October 2015, \u2018she saw mountains and ascended with me,\u2019 stated Brad. She smiled even when it rained.<\/p>\n

In 2022, the grandmom-grandson combination will have visited 63 national parks. Brad shared his Appalachian Trail adventures \u2018She lived vicariously through my words, per GMA. <\/p>\n

So he felt obligated to show her \u2018these amazing wild areas\u2019 \u2018Make sure she has memories to share.\u2019<\/p>\n

D.C. doctor \u2018Grandma Joy is a superhero.\u2019 Joy, a mother of three and grandma of four, is “not your ordinary 92-year-old.\u2019 Joy was a 20-year-old widow when they started traveling together.<\/p>\n

Brad thought camping with his grandmother would be difficult. He confesses it was his \u2018misperception of what age signifies and what her soul would allow her to do.\u2019<\/p>\n

Joy says these travels are \u2018beyond anything I’ve ever imagined\u2019 She remarked \u2018it didn’t harm to try something once\u2019 She \u2018didn’t want to regret it tomorrow\u2019<\/p>\n

Brad grew up with his grandmother. \u2018My grandma was insistent about me being in nature, and I suppose my love of animals originated from her,\u2019 says Brad. <\/p>\n

Throughout his boyhood, they were \u2018extremely close,\u2019 he says. After spending hours on the road together and swapping experiences, their relationship has become \u2018the closest friendship I could ever imagine having with someone.\u2019<\/p>\n

His grandma said, \u2018I wouldn’t exchange him.\u2019 I love him. Indeed.\u2019 Brad says Joy \u2018saved me in the process\u2019 by helping him become mentally robust.<\/p>\n
