I’ve been told my whole life, \u2018You’re not going to be able to do the typical things that other people do,\u2019<\/p>\n

and I’ve taken that to imply that I won’t be successful at the things that other people find easy. <\/p>\n

To demonstrate this, I plan to use phrases like, \u2019You know what? The 24-year-old soul-pop singer told the panel of judges, \u2018You are in wrong.\u2019<\/p>\n

Since the day I was born, I’ve been told that I can’t take part in regular life the way other people can. <\/p>\n

To demonstrate this, I plan to use phrases like, \u2018You know what? You are completely mistaken. Despite your <\/p>\n

disability, you can do everything you set your mind to, Ali, a 24-year-old soul-pop musician, declared boldly. <\/p>\n

On Monday night, the third night of the blind auditions for The Voice Season 23 began, and Ali completely achieved her goal. <\/p>\n

When Ali was a toddler and her musician father was playing one of his drums really loudly, she didn’t react and he realized that she had \u2018severe hearing loss.\u2019 <\/p>\n

The doctor found that Ali’s problem was congenital. When watching Ali’s dad and Carson Daly, host of The Voice, <\/p>\n

have a talk, Ali’s mom commented, \u2018That was very bad.\u2019I’m sure a lot of other stuff crosses your mind as well,’ she remarked. <\/p>\n

Unfortunately, all of Ali’s parents’ worries were unfounded. We worked around that, as Ali explained it: <\/p>\n

\u2018My parents, they never really looked at it as though I was ‘broken.’\u2019It was put to good use for us. <\/p>\n

There will always be a particular place in my heart for music. I’m going to do it even if I have a lot of doubts about myself. <\/p>\n

Even if I can’t hear all that’s going on, I can still get a good sense of the music’s meaning and the lyrical content just by feeling the beat. <\/p>\n

She told the judges, \u2018I have a hearing problem. I have two hearing aids that I use,\u2019 before delivering a remarkable rendition of Roberta Flack’s <\/p>\n

\u2018Killing Me Softly With His Song.\u2019 My inability to hear began at birth. It’s a great privilege of mine to show you this. It’s understandable that they were caught off guard by it. <\/p>\n

Laughing, Blake Shelton retorted, “What an absolutely wonderful performance the voice was! If you had <\/p>\n

lined up all the singers that we’ve heard so far and then said, \u2018Pick which one is hearing-impaired,\u2019 you would probably be the last one that I would choose.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018That’s incredible. You guys are just jumping over obstacles, and it’s awesome to see.\u2019\u2014 Niall Horan. \u2018You have triumphed over every obstacle that life has thrown at you.\u2019<\/p>\n

Ali received the votes of two judges: Kelly Clarkson and Chance the Rapper. The rappers Kelly and Chance the Rapper both voted for Ali because of his \u2018complex, fascinating, and odd\u2019 runs. <\/p>\n

That’s sweet of them, but it might be unsettling to hear a cover of a song you know so well if someone changes it in a way that feels unfamiliar. <\/p>\n

A familiar tune can leave an indelible impression on your mind with just one listen. Still, the modifications <\/p>\n

you made were very you. ‘I really need to turn around and find out who is singing this,’ I thought to myself.\u2019 <\/p>\n

Despite Kelly’s effusive praise, I anticipated Ali would choose Chance because of his involvement with an \u2018amazing institution\u2019that stages ASL hip-hop performances <\/p>\n

at national music festivals. Kelly gushed over Chance, praising his skill and authenticity. \u2018I believe it is of the utmost significance and power, <\/p>\n

and naturally you simply have an incredible voice; all of the decisions that you were making seemed like they came from the depths of your <\/p>\n

soul.\u2019 \u2019I made a lot of friends from the deaf and hard of hearing community [through Definitely Dope], <\/p>\n

and I think it’s so dope if they could look \u2018Please perform some gospel for me; I love that style of music. <\/p>\n

Ali’s status as a gospel singer and admirer gave Chance a temporary boost, but she ultimately decided to support Kelly. <\/p>\n

I just wanted to say how appreciative I am that Ali had the courage to take a \u2018leap of faith\u2019 and try out for The Voice. <\/p>\n

\u2018I’m very excited to collaborate with someone who has a more nuanced understanding of music than I do. She is extremely brave and self-assured, <\/p>\n

and I really want to delve into songs with her, Kelly said of the newest member of their group, and <\/p>\n

I believe it’s going to be quite intriguing. \u2019I need to hear music for myself in order to appreciate it.\u2019<\/p>\n
