New Jersey native Devan Bonagura had no idea how his life would change after helping a struggling person.<\/p>\n
It gave him profound insights and inspired many.<\/p>\n
His fifth TikTok video, a 15-second piece, started everything.<\/p>\n
Popular TikTok. Bonagura did not know why he was disseminating the short film, thus he could not predict the response.<\/p>\n

The young man’s break room footage showed an older Walmart employee in Hackettstown, New Jersey.<\/p>\n
The viral video has 30.8 million views and 4.6 million reactions as of November 28.<\/p>\n
The old woman thanked him but said it wasn’t enough to pay her mortgage.<\/p>\n
The elderly woman in the video was 81-year-old Nola Carpenter, a New Jersey citizen who had worked for the enormous corporation for almost two decades.<\/p>\n
The viral video garnered hundreds of responses from internet users worldwide. Inlaid calligraphy read:<\/p>\n
\u201cLife shouldn\u2019t be [this] hard,\u201d people say.<\/p>\n
Some believed Carpenter seemed worn and ready to give up, but others felt compelled to comfort and embrace her.<\/p>\n
Bonagura decided to participate after receiving such positive comments. However, something tugged his heartstrings.<\/p>\n

Bonagura discovered that Carpenter worked instead of retiring to pay off her mortgage.<\/p>\n
Bonagura discovered this. However, Walmart pays its employees between $17 and $19 per hour, so the older woman would have had to save a long time to buy what she needed.<\/p>\n
In response to a commenter’s suggestion, Bonagura started a crowdsourcing campaign for Carpenter called “Let’s help Nola retire” to solve her problems.<\/p>\n
It was titled:<\/p>\n
\u201cNola working at Walmart should be enough,\u201d you remark. Communicate and assist.<\/p>\n
Later, Bonagura admitted that he worked for a company that sold products in Walmart.<\/p>\n
In a November 4 video, the young man updated Carpenter’s narrative and revealed disturbing results.<\/p>\n
He said store management had ordered him to erase the popular fundraising website and viral video because the well-known retailer was under fire.<\/p>\n
If required, management would notify authorities. Bonagura said he made his position clear:<\/p>\n
I would find a method to give the woman the money, so they had to act. I ordered them to perform.<\/p>\n

The New Jersey resident didn’t mind that he was given paid leave from his company in addition to the punishment because he was able to help Carpenter.<\/p>\n
After chatting with Carpenter in a November 5 video, Bonagura surprised her by placing the $110,000 raised by the campaign into her bank account.<\/p>\n
The old woman thanked him for his assistance but said it wasn’t enough to pay her mortgage.<\/p>\n
Carpenter advised her to keep working until she earned $60,000 because she was paid by the hour at the business and would have taken too long to save that much.<\/p>\n
Bonagura maintained the GoFundMe website until 13,500 individuals had donated $186,323.<\/p>\n
On November 14, 19-year-old Bonagura and Carpenter posted a YouTube update.<\/p>\n
He asked her questions after giving her the entire GoFundMe sum.<\/p>\n
Carpenter, who could now retire, said, \u201cI feel amazing, and I\u2019m thankful for what Devan has done, because without him, none of this would have been possible.\u201d<\/p>\n
Devan helped Carpenter retire.<\/p>\n
Carpenter, who had worked at the store for nearly 20 years, became upset and said she would miss her customers. Carpenter was a 20-year employee.<\/p>\n
She also said she will work through the holidays and retire in 2023.<\/p>\n
