<\/p>\nMy first love was him. I had sincere love for him. Jeanne describes the man she was forced to end her relationship with 43 years ago in this way. <\/p>\n
The good news is that this couple’s love was predestined, and years later they were reunited and <\/p>\n
even got married. This is the heartwarming tale of two people whose love overcame all social constraints.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
When Jeanne, now 69, began her first year as a freshman and Stephen, then 73, was in his final year of college, they first met back in 1971.<\/p>\n
And despite the fact that they shared a strong link and that Steve was Jeanne’s first genuine love, <\/p>\n
the two had to part ways because her mother disapproved of their relationship due to the contrast <\/p>\n
in their skin tones.
\nShe didn’t want this relationship to happen at all, Jeanne recalled.<\/p>\n

The young pair continued to see each other for 7 years despite the mother’s opposition. <\/p>\n
Jeanne struggled to see Stephen, who didn’t have a car, after she finished her nursing degree and began a career <\/p>\n
that needed her to travel a great deal and work long hours. She fessed out, \u2018I was completely overwhelmed by everything.\u2019<\/p>\n

The family issue was always dragging on me because it permanently damaged the bond between my mother and I, Jeanne continued.<\/p>\n
And despite her mom being the reason why she had to separate from her lover, she noted that her love for <\/p>\n
her mom didn\u2019t fade away. She does, however, acknowledge that what occurred \u2018affected our relationship for the rest of my life.\u2019<\/p>\n

Even the idea of marriage was brought up, but Jeanne was reluctant to make the commitment. She said, \u2018I would’ve lost my entire family.\u2019<\/p>\n
Jeanne recalled being at the nurse’s desk and calling Stephen with the painful news, having no choice except <\/p>\n
to end their relationship. He heard her say, \u2018I love you, but I just can’t continue in this relationship.\u2019<\/p>\n

Stephen was devastated by the abrupt divorce, which rendered him speechless. Jeanne’s story had a terrible ending as well, <\/p>\n
one that followed her for years. She freely acknowledges, \u2018I regretted it then, I regretted the way I did it, but I did it.\u2019<\/p>\n
The couple continued to live separate lives and did not speak to one another for the following 40 years.<\/p>\n

In 2021, after her mother had passed away and she had divorced herself, Jeanne had become a retired widow and had begun looking for Stephen. <\/p>\n
However, despite her best attempts, she was unable to locate him on social media. There was essentially no sign of him, she said.<\/p>\n
Fortunately, Jeanne located Stephen’s niece’s address in April 2021 and wrote to her. Stephen’s niece told <\/p>\n
her he was in a nursing home, which, as Jeanne acknowledged, \u2018that’s something I had never in a million years imagined.\u2019<\/p>\n

Jeanne called the nursing home to find out more about Stephen. She was advised by a staff worker that residents of the home did not have access to phones at their bedsides.<\/p>\n
After then, Jeanne sent Stephen a second letter, but he didn’t respond. A nurse advised her that he was unable to speak on the phone when she called again.<\/p>\n

Jeanne made the decision to go there herself at this point. I needed to know: Was he okay, she said. A married man? Will he pardon me?<\/p>\n
Finally, Jeanne entered his room, and Stephen recognized her right away, calling out her name while tears streamed down his face. She fessed out, \u2018I knew he still loved me.\u2019<\/p>\n

She moved him into her home a few months later, and he said, \u2018She is lovely. She is the reason I am alive. I want to stay with her forever.<\/p>\n
A few months later, Stephen proposed to Jeanne, and the two later wed in front of roughly 65 friends and family members at their residence. <\/p>\n
The delighted bride says, \u2018We can spend the rest of our lives together making plans.\u2019 She adopted Stephen’s last name as well, saying, \u2018I’ve wanted it for a long time.\u2019<\/p>\n
