<\/p>\nSally Struthers rose to prominence after starring in the 1970s sitcom \u2018All in the Family.\u2019 Although the program centered on Archie Bunker, <\/p>\n
Gloria Struthers, who played Bunker’s daughter, left a lasting impression during its run. In it, she transformed <\/p>\n
from a kind but somewhat naive young girl into a reserved and mature young woman. She garnered two Emmys for her performance.<\/p>\n
Struthers continued working in film and television after the program ended. She reprised the role of Gloria in \u2018Archie Bunker’s Place\u2019 and \u2018Gloria.\u2019 <\/p>\n

Struthers started her career in show business when she was just 20 years old. She was born on July 28, 1947, in Portland, Oregon. <\/p>\n
She started out with a few little parts, including \u2018Five Easy Pieces,\u2019 where she starred opposite Jack Nicholson.<\/p>\n
But after being fired from another film, she earned the part that would go on to make her a star. <\/p>\n
She claimed to Newsday that because the producers of \u2018The Tim Conway Comedy Hour\u2019 didn’t like the dancer part she played, they fired her. <\/p>\n
When she told Newsday that they had done that, she said, \u2018If they hadn’t done that, I wouldn’t have <\/p>\n
been free to read for ‘All in the Family.’\u2019 Nevertheless, that defeat was actually a huge victory.<\/p>\n
As they say, the rest is history. \u2018All in the Family\u2019 made its debut in 1971, and despite a sluggish start, <\/p>\n
it eventually rose to prominence and garnered multiple accolades. It had a record-breaking five spin-off shows, <\/p>\n
including \u2018Gloria,\u2019 which included Struthers’ character but only lasted one season. It had a total run of nine seasons. <\/p>\n

But Struthers’ portrayal on \u2018All in the Family\u2019 was so admired that it led to her winning two Emmy Awards in 1971 and 1979.<\/p>\n
In addition to her work on \u2018All in the Family\u2019 and its spin-offs, Struthers expanded her acting career by taking on voice acting roles on a few different programs. <\/p>\n
She provided Pebbles Flintstone’s voice in the early 1970s for \u2018The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show\u2019 and \u2018Fred Flintstone and Friends.\u2019 <\/p>\n
In the 1990s, she resumed voice acting when she made an appearance in the popular television series \u2018Dinosaurs\u2019 and \u2018TaleSpin.\u2019 <\/p>\n
In addition, she made guest appearances on episodes of \u2018Tom & Jerry Kids,\u2019 \u2018Yo Yogi!\u2019 and \u2018Tiny Toon Adventures.\u2019 <\/p>\n
She most recently contributed her vocal abilities to the program \u2018American Dad!\u2019<\/p>\n
In the late 1980s, Struthers appeared in the television series \u20189 to 5\u2019, which was based on the same-named film. <\/p>\n
More recently, she appeared in the series \u2018Gilmore Girls,\u2019 where she played Babette Gill, Lorelai and Rory’s neighbor. <\/p>\n
Aside from \u2018General Hospital,\u2019 \u2018Sabrina the Teenage Witch,\u2019 and most recently, \u2018Maron,\u2019 a sitcom <\/p>\n
in which comedian Marc Maron portrays a fictionalized version of himself, she also appeared in guest parts on these programs.<\/p>\n
Struthers has acted in television programs as well as movies and even plays. Among other theater roles, Struthers played Dolly Levi in the 50th anniversary performance of “Hello Dolly!” in 2014.<\/p>\n
Struthers rose to prominence for her advocacy in addition to her acting career. She used to be a strong supporter of ChildFund, <\/p>\n
formerly known as the Christian Children’s Fund, which fought for the rights of underprivileged children in developing nations. <\/p>\n
The cause was famously highlighted in a series of television commercials that Struthers produced in the <\/p>\n
1990s and the first part of the 2000s, but they weren’t successful and ended up being made fun of. <\/p>\n
Struthers, who has since left the group, admitted on the Marc Maron podcast that a violent encounter she <\/p>\n
had while visiting Uganda was ultimately what led to her departure. She claimed that a youngster from the <\/p>\n

In July 2023, Struthers appeared in an interview on Australia\u2019s Studio 10 to discuss a moment that has been seared into the memory of many of her fans Down Under. <\/p>\n
Back in 1975, Struthers had given one of Australia\u2019s comedic treasures, Norman Gunston, a hilarious interview that showed off her easy-going nature and Gunston\u2019s incredulous wit. <\/p>\n
In the side-splitting clip, Struthers is seen barely able to contain herself as Gunston pulled off yet another uproarious mock interview he was famous for back in the day.<\/p>\n
\u2018I\u2019m sure my instantaneous reaction\u2026 was that, \u2018oh, Australia\u2019s not really sophisticated.\u2019 If this is <\/p>\n
their journalist and they sent him\u2026 do they even know he cuts himself shaving like that?\u2019 she said in the interview. <\/p>\n
Fans who are aware of Struthers’ past will remark that she appeared glowing and significantly slimmer in the interview at the age of 76. <\/p>\n
After becoming well-known for playing one of America’s wittiest TV daughters, Struthers fell in love and <\/p>\n
wed famous psychiatrist William Rader in 1977. Both were lively people, which made living at home rather interesting.<\/p>\n
She and I are both tough, and it can lead to confrontation. But to my wife, I’m a husband, not a psychiatrist. <\/p>\n
In 1981, William remarked, \u2018I feel like she’s benefited me more than I’ve helped her.
\nSamantha Radar was the couple’s only child before being divorced in 1983. <\/p>\n
In the same 1981 interview, Struthers admitted that she had never intended to have children and that when Samantha was born, she decided that one child was sufficient for her. <\/p>\n
She remarked, \u2018I’m really amazed women do it again,\u2019 adding that she didn’t “need to be a babymaker.\u2019<\/p>\n
Samantha pursued a career in clinical psychology in the same field as her father. She now owns and operates Source Code, a business she started.<\/p>\n
