School in 1962. His birth year was 1940. After only two semesters at the University of Oregon, Sam transferred to Clark College in Vancouver, Washington, <\/p>\n
where he enrolled in a two-year program. Vancouver is home to Clark College. He auditioned while he <\/p>\n
was there for one of the principal parts in a theater production of \u2018Guys and Dolls.\u2019 He was prosperous.<\/p>\n

The praise Sam received for his portrayal as Big Jule in the production of \u2018Guys and Dolls\u2019 contributed to his choice to pursue acting as a career. <\/p>\n
Sadly, his father did not anticipate him choosing a course for his work that would eventually take him to Hollywood. <\/p>\n
In an interview with CBS, Sam claimed, \u2018I heard him say the proverbial line about, ‘He’s got a snowball’s <\/p>\n
chance in Hell of havin’ a career in that town,’ one time to my mom.\u2019 Sam was making reference to an idiom.<\/p>\n
Sam’s father had always wanted him to finish his schooling, and after his father passed away from a heart attack, <\/p>\n
Sam was able to fulfill that wish. When asked to characterize his father, he said, “He was my dad. He was a realist. <\/p>\n
Every day, he made a lot of effort. I’ve fashioned my work ethic after his, therefore I owe him a debt of gratitude that I carry with me every day. He had a strong work ethic.<\/p>\n
Sam traveled to Los Angeles during the end of the 1960s. He pursued training in the performing arts and worked in <\/p>\n
construction before serving in the California Air National Guard. He worked at the Van Nuys Airport prior to his unit moving to the Channel Islands Air National Guard Station.<\/p>\n
Sam has been employed in the entertainment business for nearly sixty years, and throughout that time he has witnessed both positive and negative changes to the sector.<\/p>\n

however, from a strictly technological standpoint, Sam stated in an interview with The Guardian.<\/p>\n
He added that despite his voice and appearance, he does not think of himself as being stereotyped as a cowboy. <\/p>\n
He recalled an occurrence that had occurred on the set and claimed, \u2018I don’t think I’ve ever had problems with my voice in terms of what people <\/p>\n
have wanted out of me as an actor.\u2019 But in 1976, I was a member of the motion picture \u2018Lifeguard,\u2019 which was directed by Dan Petrie, who did a lot of excellent work. <\/p>\n
He would sometimes tell me, \u2018Let’s do it again, and this time, let’s be a little less south in the mouth.\u2019<\/p>\n
(Let’s try it once more, and this time, let’s be a little less negative.) That always makes me chuckle.<\/p>\n
But Sam doesn’t particularly enjoy playing a particular kind of part. The actor told CBS that he \u2018didn’t enjoy it\u2019 when he occasionally played terrible guys. <\/p>\n
Simply said, I don’t want to go any further. That sort of offensive stuff already predominates far too much in the world. <\/p>\n
\u2018I’d rather make people feel good, cry, or, you know, look inside themselves and know they’re not alone,\u2019 the speaker said.<\/p>\n
In 1978, Sam first met Ross while working on the set of the Gothic horror movie \u2018The Legacy.\u2019 They clicked right away, and soon after that, <\/p>\n
they began dating. A few months before the birth of their first child, a daughter named Cleo Rose Elliott, they got married in 1984.<\/p>\n

Sam said to AARP that Ross was first introduced to him while working on the set of a film that was released prior to \u2018The Legacy.\u2019<\/p>\n
On the other hand, he lacked the courage to approach her at that precise moment. We both worked on ‘Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,’ <\/p>\n
including Katherine Ross, who is now my wife, but I didn’t have the guts to approach her at the time. <\/p>\n
She portrayed the lead female character. I appeared as a glorified extra in a bar scene, a tiny speck <\/p>\n
in the distance. We didn’t really communicate with one another until we worked on \u2018The Legacy\u2019 together.<\/p>\n
The actress gave The Oklahoman further details about her professional life and career during their interview. Ross continued by explaining:<\/p>\n
In the 1960s, when a number of television Westerns were being produced, he stated, \u2018I kind of started working, <\/p>\n
and I was fortunate to have parts in many of them.\u2019 I was present in many of them. In addition, I had the opportunity to work with a wide range of superb character actors.<\/p>\n
Ross was admitted into the National Cowboy Museum’s Hall of Great Western Performers in 2014 as a token of appreciation. <\/p>\n
This was a distinction that Ross’s wife had likewise received seven years prior. \u2018If I could ride a horse, <\/p>\n

I would do anything for it,\u2019 she declared. It gives me great pleasure to join the other artists who have been admitted into the Great Western artists because I was born and bred in the West.<\/p>\n
When asked by the Mercury News whether Sam’s voice, mustache, or rugged good looks made her fall in love with him, Ross gushed, \u2018It was all of the above!\u2019<\/p>\n
In 2023, Sam turned 79. According to the actor, he credits his wife with making a large number of those years some of the happiest of his life. <\/p>\n
The couple has faced their fair share of challenges, as is the case in many romantic relationships, but Sam will never think of calling it quits. Regarding Ross, he said:<\/p>\n
\u2018We have similar sensibilities, but we also try to communicate with one another. You face the issue head-on rather than trying to avoid it. That’s the key to successful relationships.<\/p>\n
Sam was asked about the secret to the longevity of his marriage when he was interviewed by Vulture in 2015. He retorted that staying away from the celebrity scene was one element.<\/p>\n
\u2018We stay away from the city and don’t engage in anything too serious. Not everything that is printed in the rags can be trusted. <\/p>\n
And we work extremely hard. Katharine and I share a lot of similarities. Our daughter Cleo is the love of our life, and even though she is 30 years old, we still feel a <\/p>\n
strong connection to her. A nice life exists. We live in Malibu and are friends with horses, dogs, cats, and birds. We need to shovel some s\u2014, dude. He replied, \u2018That will keep you humble.\u2019<\/p>\n
The happy couple is content with their straightforward and leisurely way of living. Sam says that <\/p>\n
the little things he does with the people he loves the most, like taking his daughter on walks along the beach, are what keep him happy.<\/p>\n
\u2018I just honestly enjoy being around Cleo. He claimed that \u2018it really doesn’t matter what we’re doing.\u2019<\/p>\n
He said, \u2018We’re rock hounds.\u2019 My father was a rock hunter, and now my daughter is carrying on the tradition. <\/p>\n
