Tragic reports state that legendary stage performer Michael McGrath passed away unexpectedly at the age of 65.<\/p>\n

According to The Hollywood Reporter, McGrath’s representative verified the sad news today. McGrath is claimed to have died on Thursday at his home in Bloomfield, New Jersey.<\/p>\n

Although his publicist apparently told Variety that it was \u2018sudden,\u2019 no cause of death has yet been identified.<\/p>\n

McGrath, a native of Worcester, Massachusetts, is best remembered for his outstanding performances on Broadway. <\/p>\n

In Plaza Suite, Tootsie, Memphis, Born Yesterday, and Wonderful Town, the seasoned actor played the lead parts. <\/p>\n

In addition, he was the first actor to play King Arthur’s comically patient sidekick Patsy in Spamalot; for that part, he received a Tony nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Musical.<\/p>\n

However, he is probably best known for his portrayal as Cookie McGee in the 2012 film Nice Work If You Can Get It. <\/p>\n

For his portrayal, McGrath received two awards: the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical and the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical.<\/p>\n

According to the Hollywood Reporter, McGrath enrolled in the Boston Conservatory at Berklee after graduating from high school but left after just three months to pursue an acting career.<\/p>\n

After establishing himself in the business, McGrath relocated to New York and appeared in My Favorite Year in 1992, giving him his first Broadway credit.<\/p>\n

Before being chosen to play Patsy, King Arthur’s servant, in Eric Idle’s musical adaptation of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Spamalot, he played a variety of prominent parts.<\/p>\n

In a 2014 interview, McGrath reflected on his experience on Spamalot, saying, \u2018It was an amazing <\/p>\n

time in my life to work with such people as Mike Nichols and Tim Curry, Hank Azaria, and David Hyde Pierce.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018When the proposal was initially given to me, I questioned how in the world a musical adaptation of Monty Python and the Holy Grail would be possible. <\/p>\n

I just wasn’t able to notice it. Nevertheless, I leaped at the chance to be involved when I learned that Mike Nichols was directing it.<\/p>\n
