Conjoined twin surgery varies greatly from case to case because each is unique. Doctors had to devise a plan <\/p>\n
to safely separate them because of the intertwined nature of their organs. This required numerous doctors and months of planning.<\/p>\n
Medical teams from The Mayo Clinic practiced numerous times, according to CBS News. Each organ had its own medical team, as well as a surgical team. <\/p>\n
In essence, it took more than twelve hours and involved more than a dozen specialized teams. Doctors carried out the difficult <\/p>\n
surgery that might potentially give the girls their independence after months of meticulous planning. <\/p>\n

A group of about 17 doctors worked together on May 12, 2006, to offer Abby and Isabelle a chance to live freely. It took almost 12 hours to separate the conjoined twins. <\/p>\n
The decision was a significant leap of faith for the family because at the time, the Star Tribune reported that 60 percent of conjoined twin operations ended in fatalities.<\/p>\n
Abby and Isabelle were still getting along quite well in grade school in 2016, ten years after their amicable divorce.<\/p>\n
Given that they were split apart at the age of six months, it makes sense that they claim they have no memory of being conjoined.<\/p>\n
They don’t remember being linked at the chest, but they display actions that point to an intrinsic recollection. <\/p>\n
They occasionally catch themselves doing the identical hand motions they used to when they were conjoined.<\/p>\n
\u2018Every night we look in our room’s mirror and wonder, ‘How do people confuse us?’\u2019 In an interview with CBS News Minnesota, Abby remarked.<\/p>\n
The twins were unstoppable, their primary school teacher Tiffany Moos told the magazine at the time. <\/p>\n
\u2018Nothing can stop them, I can’t imagine how healthy they are. Academically, they are at a high level, and socially, they have friends everywhere.<\/p>\n
The twins appear to be thriving as high school students and enjoying their youth based on their Instagram account. <\/p>\n
Isabelle enjoys posting pictures of herself, her twin Abby, and their friends on social media. <\/p>\n
They both compete on the gymnastics team, and like any other teenagers, they go to music festivals. <\/p>\n
The Carlsen twins have developed into stunning young women with no outward signs of their formerly combined lives.<\/p>\n
