<\/p>\nAn emotional image of an elderly Chinese couple holding hands in the intensive care unit when they were both bedridden went viral, <\/p>\n
touching millions of people around the world. The couple had been married for almost seven decades.<\/p>\n
The image was shot and posted by Wang Yanfang, the head nurse of the intensive care unit at Yinzhou Hospital in Zhejiang Province, eastern China, according to New China.<\/p>\n
Feng Ming, the wife’s 92-year-old husband, was initially admitted to the intensive care unit after experiencing heart failure.<\/p>\n
Sadly, before he had a lung infection, his condition worsened and more of his organs started to fail.<\/p>\n

In the end, Feng was unable to speak and was being kept alive by a machine.<\/p>\n
His family made the decision to discontinue therapy and bring him home since they knew he was getting close to the end of his life. <\/p>\n
But before leaving the hospital, he had one more wish: he wanted to see his wife, to whom he had been married for 66 years.<\/p>\n
The same hospital had also accepted Zhang Ping, Feng’s 95-year-old wife, who was having treatment for a damaged femur while residing on a different floor.<\/p>\n
The ICU’s visiting hours are from 3:00 to 3:30 pm, but Feng’s health is too critical to wait until then, according to Wang, the chief nurse, who spoke to New China. <\/p>\n
He reportedly made the decision to arrange something special so that the old couple might meet for what might have been their final encounter.<\/p>\n

Feng saw his wife for the final time as she was taken on a stretcher from the 14th floor to the ICU on the third floor per Wang’s request.<\/p>\n
Don’t worry about me, Feng’s wife said as she took hold of her husband and spoke to him in their own tongue, <\/p>\n
according to Wang, who related the touching tale. You can trust that I can take care of myself.<\/p>\n
Upon hearing her comments, Feng started to cry. A few hours later, he passed away peacefully in his own home. <\/p>\n
Wang stated, \u2018I am pleased that we made the right option. We made an exception for the elderly couple to meet so that the beautiful moment can happen and be recorded.<\/p>\n
This story is simultaneously heartbreaking and inspiring. Nevertheless, it gives one comfort to know that <\/p>\n
