<\/p>\nAn unexpected discovery was made by a woman looking through a seldom used spare room in her mother’s Winchester, <\/p>\n
Hampshire, home: a massive wasps’ nest, home to an estimated 5,000 wasps, had taken over a single bed. <\/p>\n
The 3 feet wide by 1.5 feet deep nest had expanded through the pillows and mattress as the diligent insects carried on with their job.<\/p>\n
When the woman’s son unlocked the door to the abandoned chamber, he made the unsettling discovery that the nest was flourishing in the absence of people. <\/p>\n
It was discovered that the wasps had been able to build their intricate nest for several months because a window had been left open.<\/p>\n

Upon receiving a request for assistance, John Birkett, a pest controller with Longwood Services, arrived at the location and was astounded by the size of the nest. <\/p>\n
Putting on protective gear, he began eliminating the wasps and discovered that the nest could support up to 700 queen wasps. <\/p>\n
Despite his forty-five years of experience, Birkett was unprepared for this unprecedented invasion.<\/p>\n
Birkett used a specialized spray to successfully clear the space and save the occupant’s precious blanket, <\/p>\n
even though the wasps were quite crafty and the nest was quite large. The woman made the difficult choice to take down the nest without realizing it was infested.<\/p>\n
