Duke consequently developed a strong advocacy for mental health. At the age of 69, Duke suffered an intestinal rupture in 2016 that resulted in sepsis and death. <\/p>\n
Actor Sean Astin, her lone child, helped to keep the Patty Duke Mental Health Initiative running after her death. <\/p>\n
