<\/p>\nActor Donald Sutherland passed suddenly. He had a long career and was best known for his roles in The Hunger Games and other motion pictures and television series. <\/p>\n
His age was eighty-eight. After a lengthy illness, Sutherland passed away on Thursday, June 20, in Miami, according to Missy Davy of the CAA, who talked with People. <\/p>\n
“The family will hold a private celebration of life,” Davy stated in his statement. The actor is survived by his five children, including his 24-year-old son Kiefer, an actor, as well as his five grandchildren.<\/p>\n

He and the actress Shirley Douglas, his ex-wife, have a son together. Actress Francine Racette and Sutherland were married in 1972, and they went on to have three children together: Roeg, Rossif, and Angus. <\/p>\n

He has been in several TV series recently, such as Swimming with Sharks, Trust, and The Undoing. In 2017, Sutherland received an Honorary Academy Award “for a lifetime of indelible characters, rendered with unwavering truthfulness.” <\/p>\n

This was true throughout his long career, which truly took off after the release of The Dirty Dozen in 1967, even though he was never nominated for a competitive Oscar. <\/p>\n
In 1995, Sutherland was honored with an Emmy for the television film Citizen X. He stated that the accolade “is very important to me, that it is very important to my family” during his acceptance speech. <\/p>\n

her sense of style, her teaching, her intuition, her ability to make me laugh even in the most trying situations, and her unshakable faith in me.<\/p>\n

“Her ability to take in and maintain the extraordinary ups and downs of this crazy movie life that we have been through is one of the most impressive things,” Sutherland said. <\/p>\n
In my opinion, she deserves a medal for it. I’m going to get you a medal, Francine, to put it another way. <\/p>\n
In 2022, Kiefer discussed with The Guardian how he was inspired to seek a career in Hollywood by his well-known father’s work. <\/p>\n
He told reporters, “It’s difficult to think of another actor who’s been as prolific and made films as diverse as The Hunger Games, Don’t Look Now, Fellini’s Casanova, and Ordinary People.” <\/p>\n
“His influence was to make my career as interesting and diverse as possible; it was really cool that he taught me by doing rather than by saying.” <\/p>\n
Sutherland claimed in a 2014 interview with Variety that he had no clue how well-known his role in The Hunger Games would get\u2014to the point that teenage fans would beg for pictures of him years after the movie’s premiere. <\/p>\n
A younger version of Sutherland’s character Coriolanus Snow is portrayed by Tom Blyth in the prequel film The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. <\/p>\n
Usually, the young woman would ask, “Why do you look so mean?” just before the photo is taken. Sutherland joked, “I was at my dermatologist, and she asked me what I was going to do next.”<\/p>\n
He also related the story of when he realized the franchise was a big deal. I told her that I would be doing a piece titled The Hunger Games. <\/p>\n
