{"id":79360,"date":"2024-06-24T10:02:47","date_gmt":"2024-06-24T07:02:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/armenia23.ru\/?p=79360"},"modified":"2024-06-24T10:02:47","modified_gmt":"2024-06-24T07:02:47","slug":"a-woman-raised-233000-to-give-a-90-year-old-veteran-who-is-still-working-in-the-heat-the-opportunity-to-retire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/armenia23.ru\/?p=79360","title":{"rendered":"A woman raised $233,000 to give a 90-year-old veteran who is still working in the heat the opportunity to retire."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In order for a 90-year-old Air Force veteran who was forced to work in order to pay his bills to retire, a former news reporter recently organized a fundraiser. <\/p>\n<p>When the reporter saw him pushing carts in the 90\u00b0F humid weather in the parking lot of a grocery store in Louisiana, they decided to record it and the resultant video raised over $200,000 in donations. <\/p>\n<p>Even though she had covered some incredible tales during her tenure as a news anchor in New Orleans, <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/armenia23.ru\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/IMG_6895-300x163.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"163\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-79361\" srcset=\"https:\/\/armenia23.ru\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/IMG_6895-300x163.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/armenia23.ru\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/IMG_6895-1024x556.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/armenia23.ru\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/IMG_6895-768x417.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/armenia23.ru\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/IMG_6895.jpeg 1141w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Karen Swensen was taken aback when she noticed 90-year-old Dillon McCormick carrying trolleys in the Metairie store parking lot.<\/p>\n<p>McCormick, a former member of the Air Force who served in Colorado and Greenland, informed Swensen that he took the job because he needed roughly $2,500 to make ends meet and was only receiving half of that amount from his Social Security checks. <\/p>\n<p>When Swensen conducted interviews with other customers in the parking lot, they revealed that he had been a long-time employee and that he constantly rounded up shopping carts. <\/p>\n<p>Swensen was moved and inspired to act after two men mentioned that they occasionally stopped to assist him.<\/p>\n<p>He served in the US military as a veteran. It&#8217;s Memorial Day. It&#8217;s warm. Mr. McCormick is a member of the Silent Generation, having been born in 1933. <\/p>\n<p>America, please allow us to be his voice. She stated, \u2018We can accomplish this,\u2019 in the opening of a GoFundMe with a $35,000 goal.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/armenia23.ru\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/IMG_6896-300x174.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"174\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-79362\" srcset=\"https:\/\/armenia23.ru\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/IMG_6896-300x174.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/armenia23.ru\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/IMG_6896-1024x592.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/armenia23.ru\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/IMG_6896-768x444.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/armenia23.ru\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/IMG_6896.jpeg 1122w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Private donations flowed in for two hundred grand in just one day; eventually, she had to turn off the donation button when the total surpassed $233,000. <\/p>\n<p>Swensen stated in an update on the GoFundMe page, \u2018The 90-year-old veteran will no longer have to push shopping carts in triple-digit heat to put food on his table.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It will be his decision alone if he decides to keep working.\u2019 \u2018We will start the process of transferring the funds tomorrow.
